The first impression of this hotel was a very friendly and professional welcome. The room was located in a small bungalow (1 bungalow = 2 neighbouring rooms) in the garden-view part of the resort. The room was beautifully furnished and every room has a terrace looking to the coconut trees of the well-maintained garden.
The staff was really friendly and professional. The food was quite good and varied every evening (buffet). You can have your stay as a all-inclusive package or as we did as a half-board stay - here no drinks are included and every snack you have will be charged at the end. Although we didn't eat that much and didn't drink much alcohol and drinks, the check-out bill was substantial... (240 Euros for 5 nights) - so think about the AI or half-board option.
The beach was terrific and the water clear and blue.Normally you find somewhere a parasol and a deck-chair even if your late (around noon, or even at 2p.m.).
You have to book the glass bottom boat and the snorkeling (2 times a day) in advance - for snorkeling you are driven by boat to a spot where it is interesting (15min away); depending on the roughness of the sea and the wind, inside or outside the barrier-reef.
And don't miss sunset - just beautiful!
If you are planning to stay in the west part of mauritius, "La Pirogue" is worth to stay in.

My husband and I have just returned from the most amazing holiday at the La Pirogue in Flic en Flac.It is probably the best place we have ever stayed. Not because it was luxourius but it was so different. The staff were fantastic from the gardeners to the restaurant waiters and reception staff. Its worth mentioning a few things that may be of use.

ROOMS.
We stayed in a standard room which was more than adequate for our needs. It was such an un usual shape. The bed was large and reasonably comfortable. The rooms were cleaned to a high standard and the bed made every day by constantly smiling staff. There was a hairdryer in the room which for me was great.A large safe which was very useful. The mini bar was restocked every day as necessary.Plenty of coathangers so you wouldnt need any extra. The only problem we had with the room was the fact that the tea coffee and milk was not complimentary apart from the first. Its the only time we have ever had to pay for this service wherever in the world we have stayed.however this did not spoil anything.

RESTAURANTS

The Thatchers had the most unbelievable food and was soooooo good and varied. We did eat at the sister hotel Sugar Beach but we didn't feel that for a 5 star it was any better. In the mornings we ate in the main part of the restaurant and in the evening we ate in the smaller thatched areas apart from the main restaurant surrounded by water.LOVELY.All candlelit making it so romantic and unforgettable.

POOL

What can I say...... beautiful infinity pool surrounded by palm trees, flowers and fabulous deep cushioned sunbeds.Nobody could fail to be impressed with this area. There were often pool activites in the mornings such as aquarobics.Too energetic for me.

BEACHES.

Stunning white sand and turquoise water with sunbeds and thatched sunshades. We had clean towels everyday which we collected from a kiosk with a lovely lady in attendance. There was a bookcase there too if you ran out of reading material.Pedelos, small sailing dinghies, glass bottomed boat, canoes and winsufing was all free of charge. You could also do deep sea fishing and diving at an extra cost.

What sets this place apart from almost anywhere else we have stayed are the gardens that were meticulously maintained with palm trees everywhere complimented by beautiful trees and plants. There was crazy golf, volley ball and table tennis free of charge set in the trees

All in all we had a fabulous holiday and plan to return next year. The only down side was that the drinks were very expensive and the lack of complimentary tea and coffee every day. however that did not detract from a superb holiday.I would like to thank each and every single member of staff for making our holiday so amazing.

Room Tip: I don't believe any area is quieter than any other personally. If you don't want to walk far...

This was our first visit to Mauritius and it is simply paradise. La Pirogue itself we were told on numerous occasions is one of the oldest hotels on the island. Well it maybe, but it has real charm and is a very peacful and beautiful place to stay. No it is not a glass edifice that you might find in Dubai and if that's what you like go find some sterile characterless modern place that could be anywhere in the world. The accomodation in La Pirogue is precisley as advertised on the hotel website indeed the reality exceeds what you see - it really is that good !! The grounds are maintained beautifully, everything is close to hand and the staff are polite, smartly turned out and consistently helpful - no hassle, they do all they can to ensure your stay is restfull and enjoyable. I cannot say the same for the staff in the sister hotel Sugar Beach - here the staff were simply disinterested. We dined at the main restaurant in SB where the food was perhaps better presented than at La Pirogue but there was no atmosphere and at the Citronella Restaurant the staff were inattentive. By contrast our experince at Paul and Virginie was exceptional the food and service were fantastic. We will most defitnitely return to La Pirogue, but will certainly not bother with the SB at all - if you like the superficial attraction of colonial stuffiness, poor service and no atmosphere then stay there by all means, but if you want warmth and the gentle buzz of people enjoying themselves in a tropical island setting then look no further than La Pirogue. I travel extensively and no La Pirogue is not your typical slick city hotel, that's not the point - here you will enjoy a piece of paradise with great staff to make sure you get the very most our of your stay. Huge thank you to all at La Pirogue !

We have been to La Pirogue seven or eight times over the last ten years. This shows that we have always been sorry to leave, but have been determined to return!. Apart from the obvious beauty and tranquility of the surroundings, the accommodation, and the food, the friendliness and assistance we have received, time after time, are what make a visit to La Pirogue special. Many of the personnel have become friends, whom we wish to visit as often as our holiday budget allows

We stayed at this resort for 10 days from 8th October 2013 for our honeymoon and what a lovely lovely place! Being backpackers we decided to go all out luxury and are so glad we picked this hotel. The staff are so welcoming, happy and will go out of their way to please you. We went for the All Inclusive option and this was the best option after speaking to other couples who went half board and found it very expensive, so do choose this option, it's worth it.

We had our own little cottage, the service was immaculate, clean rooms everyday ( we were surprised to find when we had gone for breakfast and returned, the rooms were cleaned in speedy time). It was paradise, clean beaches, picturesque and palm trees everywhere.

Well done and keep up the good work. Well deserved.

Room Tip: Does what it says on the tin!
