Sands was wonderful. We're usually more into self catering, living out of a backpack style travel, but we decided to try something a little different and a little more relaxing for our honeymoon.

I'm so glad we did. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, any one of them could help you with pretty much any query and nothing was too much to ask. Unfortunately, as I've left it a year to leave a review (sorry Sands!!), I can't remember the names of the stand out staff, but suffice to say, they were all wonderful. We stayed in October 2015 but I've left it so late, that date isn't even an option to select for 'when did you travel'!

One day, when we returned from a trip to the nature reserve Ile Aux Aigrettes (highly recommended), the manager was waiting with a request - Could he upgrade us to the suite because they needed our room! We were delighted, and spent the last few days of our honeymoon in an enormous apartment that looked right out onto the beach. Gorgeous. They even gave us cheese and wine to say thank you, when really we should have been thanking them!

Although we tended to head out for the day most days, there is plenty to do in and around the hotel if you want a more laid back holiday. The food is lovely, the spa is relaxing, the pool is beautiful and the beach is divine.

We absolutely loved our stay here and I can't believe that anyone has rated the resort as anything less than 5 stars! Thank you Sands, we'll treasure the memories for ever!

We stayed at the Sands resort for 10 days in the middle of October. It exceeded our expectations , lovely friendly and attentive but not overly , staff. Beach just right only a few steps from our suite which was fabulous. Meals were plentiful & a great choice. We intended to explore the island but infect stayed local walking to Tarmarind, through the little wood and along the beach. We also walked along flic en flac beach , where we saw 4 weddings in one afternoon !!! We did catch the local bus to Port Louis , spend time on the waterfront , busy capital though so was glad to get back to the peace of the Hotel. Good to experience the bus which was very cheap . Drinks at hotel expensive so as in other reviews a visit to local supermarket to stock up advisable.
Thank you for such a fantastic holiday . Love Love it Xx

Room tip: We stayed on the third floor above the palm trees .

AMAZING...AMAZING...AMAZING

Beautiful staff, rooms, buffet and beach.

This hotel really has nailed it.

Congratulations to The Sands. You made our holiday perfect in absolutely every possible way.

Whatever we wanted we received.

Thankyou to the amazing Selvin who is such a great ambassador for The Sands, as are all the staff.

We will treasure this memory forever.

My wife and I spent 10 very enjoyable days at the Sands, and we wished we could have stayed longer. We do not have one bad thing to say, everything about our stay was wonderful. The staff are very friendly and go out of their way to help with anything you need. We had a room on the 3rd floor, and even though there is no lift, walking the stairs is not a problem. The restaurant and food has a great selection every day, and the chefs and restaurant staff all very helpful. Our favourite staff member was Selven, the bar manager. From day one, Selven greeted us by name everytime he saw us. Selven went out if his way to help us with things that weren't even his responsibility. It is people like Selven that made our stay extra special and enjoyable.
All of the facilities at the Sands are well kept, tidy, and there are always staff to help out with any request. I booked a scuba diving trip through the hotel boat house staff, and everything was organised perfectly. Even though we hired a car to do sightseeing, you could easily stay at the resort all day, every day, as you have everything to make your stay most comfortable.
When we left the Sands, we moved to another hotel in another area of Mauritius to experience a different area. In hindsight we wish we had stayed at the Sands, as the other location could not compare in anyway to our experience at the Sands.
When we return to Mauritius, the Sands will certainly be our first choice without a doubt!

Positives

1. Its peaceful and relaxing with very few to no children at the hotel when we stayed.
2. The hotel is a solid 4 star hotel with 5 star hotel buffet food. The standard was very high with enough variation.
3. Free daily snorkelling trips out by boat to the nearest reefs and free use of kayaks, pedalo's, small sail boats
4. The hotel is clean and the service in the restaurant, around the pool and at the bar is always friendley and it never gets in your way or is over the top
5. All hotel rooms face the sea. None inland. I think you probably pay a bit more for a room as you move upwards from the ground floor to the second floor.

Neutral

1. The hotel is at he very end of flic and flac beach. This means it is quiet with no locals or lots of watercraft but it does mean that it is quite a walk into the nearest towns 20 - 30 minutes to the nearest supermarket

Negatives

1. The alcohol - beer, cocktails and particularly wine are even more expensive than you would normally pay at a hotel. Usually you don't mind paying the mark up but this seems a little more excessive than normal. You can bring your own wine to dinner (from the supermarket) for a corkage fee of 350 Rupee's which is cheaper than 1 glass of wine at the hotel.
