Went on long weekend of carnival and had a great time. The setting is wonderful cove with green blue water and a soft sandy beach.

Rent some shade for the day and have a lunch at one of the open pit bbq's. There's also a restaurant there but not worth the premium you will pay.

Generally people were curtious and didn't play loud music so we could all enjoy a good time.

Best public beach within a day trip of Panama City I have been to.

Near to Portobello this beach is great. A nice bay with lovely sand and warm Carribean clear water. There is a place to have a beer or a meal on the beach. Parking no problem but recently charging $5.00. Best during the week as weekends can become busy.

After reading reviews on many beaches in Panama on several web sites we decided to visit this one for some chill out time while visiting Panama city.It is about a 2 hour drive from Panama city if you don"t use the toll road as we did not because we prefer to see some of the local scenery, but you can get there in just over an hour via the toll road. There is a good supermarket at the junction of the main Panama - Colon road and the road to Portabello you have to take to get down to the beach,it"s a good place to pick up supplies for a picnic as we did,the road towards Portabello is quite narrow and twisty and you have to watch out for some very large potholes, after about 15KM.the entrance to the beach comes up on you left hand side, there is a sign so it is easy to find,as it is a private beach there is an entry charge but this is only $3 per car.The beach is only open from 10AM till 4PM.
From the reviews we had read it appears to be very busy at weekends with loads of locals having parties and getting drunk and leaving lots of cans and bottles all over so that"s why we went mid-week.You can get your car to the edge of the beach and under the shade of the trees that line the beach, there are lots of tables and benches with palm leaf tops along the top edge of the beach and these are charged at $5 per day but you can take your own chairs or blanket if you don"t want to pay.
The beach was nice and clean when we went with very nice soft sand gently sloping down to the sea and once in the pleasantly warm sea the bottom still slopes only gently so is quite shallow for a long way out so quite safe for children to play in.There is a shack selling drinks and snacks in the trees and also some toilets and showers to use charged at 25 cents. There is also a restaurant serving food and carry outs but we did not use this, there is a shack there that sells beach toys and inflatables but this was closed in the week probably only opens when busy at weekends. The beach was not crowded when we visited but still a few locals drinking and leaving bottles and cans around despite there being loads bins about for rubbish.
SECOND VISIT SPOILT BY LOCAL IDIOT WITH DEAFENING MUSIC.
We did enjoy our visit to this beach so decided to go back the following week, again it was very nice till a local youth who objected to being asked to pay for the table he was sat at in protest turned the music system up so loud it was hurting our ears and we were sat 50 MTRS away, we did ask him to turn it down a bit as he did but only for 5 minutes then cranked it back up to 11.We moved further down the beach to try and get the noise to a reasonable level but even though we were about 150 MTRS away all we could hear was his very loud noise we could not hear the music from the car we were right next too even though that was at a reasonable level, lots of people were getting hacked off with the racket but just looked at each other and shrugged.
Because we had moved down the beach the man came to try and charge us an extra $5 for the table we had moved to saying they were $10 per day so I told him to go and get lost till he did something about the idiot with the music spioling everybody"s day which he did not do.At one stage a local police car did turn up but they just sat in there car and did nothing, I think they were just having a skive.Eventually the idiot decided to leave about 14.00 and the beach went back to a much nicer place there was still plenty of cars playing music but all at a reasonable level.
Overall a very nice beach but your day can be spoilt by one person and the people in charge of the beach would do nothing about it,if this review puts you going to this beach it serves them right.

The beach is a nice place to go during the week but on week ends it's over crowded and beer cans all over the place.
