Abaca Boutique Resort

This is my partner and I second visit to Abaca (first time in April 2013).

Our reason for coming back was it was absolutely do-nothing-relaxation attitude with luxury.

All the resort staff, from housekeeping, to concierge and butler, to restaurant and poolside had the most positive and welcoming attitudes. They go out of their way to ensure that you are their valued customer. Very polite and accomodating.

9 rooms at this exclusive resort so it caters for a very small clientele. 3 types of rooms to choose from. A view with of the sea, a super-lux room with a view of the sea [no pool] and a garden villa with a pludge pool.

If you want some relaxing time in your room with a pool, choose a garden villa. If you want a view, choose the other rooms. Personally, the garden villa's have the best privacy as well so its the better option.

Minimal options at the restaurant, but the serving sizes are very generous. The chef can also cater for a custom meal if you know what you want. Ask for a custom crispy-pata or bagnet.

The spa area is beautiful but the treatment rooms are quite small. The therapists are very gentle and softly spoken and make you feel like royalty.

Bring a book or two to read between your swim and spa treatments. Also bring insect repellent. THE ONLY OTHERWISE MINOR ISSUE WAS THE MOSQUITOES. I WAS EATEN ALIVE WHEN I WASNT SMOTHERED IN SUNSCREEN OR IN THE POOL. The rooms seemed to be ok.

Abaca is my choice of residency when visiting Cebu; even with the hotly contested larger resorts nearby.

Room Tip: Choose room 8 or 9 for privacy. Many complimentary inclusions

From Cebu’s International Airport, we were greeted by the our driver and made our way through the busy roads of Mactan Island, and 10 minutes later, uncovered the small but perfectly formed Abaca Boutique Resort. One of the most exclusive boutique resorts in the Philippines, this property has 6 suites and 3 villas– all very well-appointed. This is the second time we’ve stayed in Abaca– our first time was for our wedding reception where we invited friends to fly over and booked the whole property for the weekend. It was an eventful weekend but this second stay is a different experience– we just get to relax and unplug ourselves from the world.

Our lavish 125 square meters Sea View Villa featured our very own private plunge pool, high vaulted ceilings, a very comfortable king-size bed, seating area, a work desk with an iMac, a spa-like bathroom with 2 sinks, a huge shower and pedestal tub.
Although the Sea View Villa is their biggest villa in the property, we prefer the Ocean Front Villa(where we stayed the first time) which has a large terrace with arresting views of the Mactan Channel. The Ocean Front Spa Villa doesn’t have its own private plunge pool, but the resort’s main pool is usually quiet and under-patronised, even with a near full-house.

The property is also a gastronomic delight with their in-house restaurant. Chef Jason Hyatt of The Abaca Group is the guy behind the best restaurants in Cebu– Phat Pho, Tavolata, Beqaa, Maya, Abaca Baking Company, Luncheonette, and Red Lizard; and if that’s any indication, Abaca Resort‘s restaurant seriously does not disappoint. You can eat beneath the shade of the cabanas, by the pool, or at the restaurant where casual but no less fabulous cuisine is served.

The resort also has their own spa. They only have 2 treatment rooms but you can request to have your massage done in the privacy of your own villa, or even down by the pool cabanas.

Our stay wouldn’t have been perfect without the personable service given by everyone in the resort– from our butler, the hotel staff, the restaurant staff, the chef and the rest of his team, they were all so genuine.

Without a doubt, Abaca Boutique Resort + Spa is a wonderful place to escape the world and leave your cares at the door.

This resort definitely lives up to it's reputation. It is the BEST resort in Mactan! It was very private and intimate. We experienced excellent service all throughout our stay. Their rooms and amenities are beautiful. Food was delicious! I had the BEST birthday celebration with my family. Our only regret is we only stayed for one night!

Title says it all.

Simply the best service I've experienced in all the countries I've visited. The kitchen is willing to cook up out of menu requests and their butler service is praise worthy!

Thank you, Abaca! I'll definitely be back.

This hotel is outstandingly good. The staff are committed, friendly, and seamlessly do all they can to make your stay as good as possible. They should all be very proud of what they do and achieve here. The food and venue is exceptional. It is a private oasis amidst the Mactan resorts. They smoothly hosted the most fantastic wedding. I thoroughly recommend staying here. A real gem.
