A Home Away from Home

This is the second time we’ve stayed at Gregory house. We love it. The rooms are quiet, clean, and very beautifully decorated. We would definitely stay again, and recommend it.

There is also a restaurant, but we haven’t eaten there yet. We plan to on our next trip.

Nothing special about the room, bed fine, bathroom dated. However the food in the restaurant is excellent. We sat in the bar which had a slightly different menu, some lighter dinners. Onion soup was excellent, bread freshly baked, pizza and veal parm just great. Dining room must have larger portions which must be huge. Continental breakfast apparently is served after 9:00 which was too late for us so we went to a diner in town.

No reception on arrival. Had to ask a waitress to find someone to check in. The owner, Alfonso, checked us in without any welcome. He is not very welcoming and was the same both mornings in the breakfast room. The breakfast was Kellogg’s, English muffins and fruit. A very basic continental breakfast. The bed in the “touch of Italy” room was uncomfortable and squeaked . The room was nice and clean as was the rest of the inn. Got the feeling that the owners are tired of this business. Could be a gem but .......

Went to Gregory House with another couple.
Food was excellent, waitstaff engaging and humorous. Dinner was leisurely, not rushed.
I had soft shell crab special and my wife has fried shrimp Marinara. Portions were generous and preparation was good!
We’ll be back!

This is the 3rd time staying at The Gregory House and this time we brought people with us. We couldn't ask for a better experience than what we got. Anna and Alfonso are the owners, who treat everyone as if they were family. The rooms are immaculate and decorated with love. The food is to die for!!! Everything is cooked to order. The bartender , Tim, is spot on with service as well as giving hugs when we were leaving. My guests that I brought can't wait to come back. They said it was their first time staying at a B&B and never imagined it was this wonderful!!!!

This past summer, my parents and I traveled to Averill Park, New York and stayed here. The service was outstanding because the staff was attentive, welcoming and kind. Due to their true display of the “hospitality spirit” our trip was one to remember.
If I had to think of one negative aspect of this trip (which is not an easy task), it would be the size of the room. Squeezing my mother, father and I into the room and bathroom was manageable, though definitely not easy. This issue was slightly frustrating, but easily forgotten once we stepped outside of the room we had rented in the charming bed and breakfast.
Every single member of the family running the Gregory House was kind and welcoming, though Alberto, the owner, was incredible. He not only was in charge of overseeing all that occurred in the hotel, but also served as the bartender and head chef of the La Perla Restaurant. While one would think this abundance of responsibilities would keep him running crazily in the back of the house, he somehow managed to go out of his way to make not only my family, but every single guest feel welcomed. The Gregory House (the hotel portion) runs a successful business, however the true gem is the attached restaurant, La Perla. I consider myself a foodie and have definitely consumed my fair share of Italian cuisine, so I can confidently say that both nights I ate there were the best Italian meals I have ever had and probably will ever have. The waitress (Alberto’s daughter-in-law) was attentive and kind, ensuring that we were satisfied throughout the entire evening. The food was fresh and clearly homemade, it was absolutely dream worthy.
Overall I believe that the Gregory House and La Perla Restaurant have an extremely positive affect on the small community of Averill Park in upstate New York. The restaurant is a definite destination itself, drawing in tourism. It is always filled with eager diners awaiting their delicious meals while chatting with the warm and welcoming staff. The hotel side allows for a convenient and comfortable place to stay when visiting the area, as there are not too many other places to stay in such a small town. It left a lasting impact on myself as well, showing me genuine good service and a true representation of what I believe to be outstanding hospitality. If anyone is ever in the Averill Park area, I highly recommend visiting the Gregory House or at least dining at the La Perla Restaurant.
