This past summer, my parents and I traveled to Averill Park, New York and stayed here. The service was outstanding because the staff was attentive, welcoming and kind. Due to their true display of the “hospitality spirit” our trip was one to remember.
If I had to think of one negative aspect of this trip (which is not an easy task), it would be the size of the room. Squeezing my mother, father and I into the room and bathroom was manageable, though definitely not easy. This issue was slightly frustrating, but easily forgotten once we stepped outside of the room we had rented in the charming bed and breakfast.
Every single member of the family running the Gregory House was kind and welcoming, though Alberto, the owner, was incredible. He not only was in charge of overseeing all that occurred in the hotel, but also served as the bartender and head chef of the La Perla Restaurant. While one would think this abundance of responsibilities would keep him running crazily in the back of the house, he somehow managed to go out of his way to make not only my family, but every single guest feel welcomed. The Gregory House (the hotel portion) runs a successful business, however the true gem is the attached restaurant, La Perla. I consider myself a foodie and have definitely consumed my fair share of Italian cuisine, so I can confidently say that both nights I ate there were the best Italian meals I have ever had and probably will ever have. The waitress (Alberto’s daughter-in-law) was attentive and kind, ensuring that we were satisfied throughout the entire evening. The food was fresh and clearly homemade, it was absolutely dream worthy.
Overall I believe that the Gregory House and La Perla Restaurant have an extremely positive affect on the small community of Averill Park in upstate New York. The restaurant is a definite destination itself, drawing in tourism. It is always filled with eager diners awaiting their delicious meals while chatting with the warm and welcoming staff. The hotel side allows for a convenient and comfortable place to stay when visiting the area, as there are not too many other places to stay in such a small town. It left a lasting impact on myself as well, showing me genuine good service and a true representation of what I believe to be outstanding hospitality. If anyone is ever in the Averill Park area, I highly recommend visiting the Gregory House or at least dining at the La Perla Restaurant.
