An interesting place to visit for some of the history of Königsberg - when you see the old, pre-war photographs and compare them to the park through which you have walked to get to the cathedral, you really get a scale of a utter devastation that was wrought on the city.

It’s also just a wee stroll to the fish market if you want some food.

Tip - tickets to get in are available in the building outside the front door. Innocent attempts to walk in ticketless are met with shrieking disapproval in both German and Russian from the custodians!

The Cathedral of Koeningsbergen is one of the few buildings still standing in the old town centre. The concrete buildings around it give it special feature

Beautifully reconstructed now used as a concert venue. Emmanuel Kant's tombstone lies on the side and is also worth visiting.

The Cathedral is deconsecrated. The inside is not especially interesting except for the organ, which is quite enormous elabotarately decorated with amusing putti holding musical instruments. Quite the biggest organ I have seen. We were treated to a brief organ recital which was excellent. It is worth listening to a concert whilst thinking of the dreadful history of this city and the fate of the Prussian population who lived here before the war. To visit the cathedral without going inside would be a mistake.

This place has a great historical background. Today however, rather than a place of worship, it is a musical place. Still interesting to see and explore.
