The hotel was in a great location, very close to the train station to Moscow (about 400 meters) and close to Nevsky Boulevard (about 200 meters). We had a room on the fifth floor with no elevator but no problem, a staff member came down and escorted us up to the reception on the third floor. We quickly got signed in and by the time we had gotten our room keys our luggage was already carried up and put in our room. The breakfast room was also on the fifth floor so it was very easy to get to breakfast. Breakfast was good and available at the advertised hours. It was not a big spread but certainly big enough and with a reasonable choice of foods. The fruit and bread were fresh as were the cakes and cookies. There was a decent choice of food and we certainly did not leave hungry. The breakfast room is accessible 24 hours a day with tea and coffee and some cookies and even chocolate, it was very convenient to go and get coffee whenever we wanted because we were already on the 5th floor. Our room (actually 2 rooms) were large and clean. Towels were replaced every day. It took two or three minutes for the hot water to arrive but when it did it was unending and maintained a constant temperature, a real unexpected pleasure since the building itself is older, but they did something very right with the plumbing because you could take a long shower without having to worry that the water temperature would vary at all! There is also a radio in the shower with a choice of stations and control over the volume, a pleasant surprise that confused my kids that thought I had brought my ipad into the shower. When we had to leave we went to reception to ask that our bags be carried downstairs for us while we had breakfast and again the service was right on the money, the bags were carried down in a jiffy. Overall we had a nice stay at the hotel, the service was pleasant and efficient. The cost was really low and certainly the experience at the hotel was far beyond what we expected or paid for. For a family of 4 to get 2 big clean rooms and fresh bedding and a good breakfast for so very little money was great You can find better if you need to but you will pay much more. At this price this is as great choice.
It is really hard to fault this hotel. The door is locked downstairs and is monitored by camera. When you want to enter they buzz you in. One night when we were going up to the room the smell in the staircase was getting worse and worse as we went up, by the time we had reached our room we had discovered that a homeless person had been able to enter and was hanging out at the top of the stairwell to stay warm (by freezing outside). We did not even bother to complain because we felt sorry for him and did not want to think that he would be thrown out into the freezing cold. I am sure this does not happen often because they do monitor the door to the hotel.
We were surprised that there was no elevator. It is a lot of stairs to climb but at least they were short steps which makes the climb easier. If you have a problem getting around then this could be a problem.
