Beautiful original hotel in the center of Kunming.
The staff and manager were very friendly and helpful.
The organized all our visits and transfers very well.
They can even provide a local mobile phone for foreigners who need it.
One thing which can be improved though is recommendations on local restaurants.

I compared Silver Chest to other highly rated skyscraper modern hotels before making a reservation. We definitely made the right choice in selecting Silver Chest which oozed old world atmosphere. Our only criticism was lack of space to store clothes. We also appreciated Superb communication with an English speaking staff member prior to trip and again after arrival when we needed help with arrangements when our plane was delayed over night in Beijing.

What a lovely place. Restored in the right way, with comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Not big, but adequate. Service was good as well. Breakfast options a bit limited, but the food was good. Can't beat the location. No aircon, but fan was enough to cool the room.

Stayed 2 nights. Great location but off street so needed to coordinate arrival with hotel. Located in tiny remaining old section of town. Good restaurants nearby. Highly recommend. Great change from mainstream hotels

This is an absolutely stunning hotel in central Kunming, if I was rating the hotel on the decoration alone it would be 5 stars but I feel like for a boutique hotel at this price, the service and ambience could be improved.

Our room was lovely, as with other reviews, I didn't understand why the toilet was open to the room, it wouldn't make me not stay there but I don't think this is ever ideal for any couple!

Breakfast was also very nice, I had the full English western breakfast. It would be great if the hotel could also offer fresh juice as well as coffee at breakfast.

It was a shame that even though online it says that there is a lounge, bar and restaurant this isn't obvious when you're there - maybe they were closed as it was quiet when we stayed? There was a coffee machine in the lounge and a wine fridge but no obvious way of ordering anything - we would have loved a coffee when we arrived early for our room or a glass of wine when returning in the evening but the library music was turned off and it didn't seem very welcoming to sit in there/try and find how to order at night.

Overall, a beautifully designed hotel which, with a few tweaks, could be perfect.
