A humbling experience to look through the cenotaph to the peace flame and on towards, the cathedral dome that is left after the A bomb.

All part of the park around the atomic dome. This is particularly interesting as the layout aligns many other elements.

This memorial is located in the peace park.

The area is very peaceful. There are always tourists here but it is not crowded.

The sculpture and the dedication that is in several languages is very sobering making you think of the incredible destruction that happened right here.

So many lives lost. Such incredible power used to create huge destructive force.

Let us all pray this never happens again.

The Cenotaph sits in the middle of the pathway from the Peace Museum to the Atomic Bomb Dome where there are the remains of a building that partially survived the blast. Flowers are laid by the Cenotaph in an offering of peace for those lost in the blast. Each year it is the central focus for the Peace Day Memorial Service held in the Peace Park and from the right position a beautiful photo can be taken of the flowers, the eternal flame, and the surviving remnants of the building. The Cenotaph is a place where Japanese take a moment to offer prayers for those lost and those still suffering the radiation sickness. We are now up to the 4th generation of survivors and families - many of whom still suffer from radiation sickness through genes passed down through the family. So the Cenotaph is a place where you may like to stop and take a moment to think of those lost, those who survive, and give thanks for your own health and that of your family.

This is a unique photo opportunity. Several structures and monuments can be lined up and photographed through an arch-like portal.
