Perhaps I missed it, but upon arrival, I found out that this Ryokan has shared bathrooms. You need to book shower slots in order to take a shower.
For a $700+ per night Ryokan, this was not at all expected!
Second surprise was that the room they gave us was right next to reception and you could hear 100% of anything that was going on outside. Rice paper wall are expected but a room in that spot is not acceptable.
They did move us but only after some firm insistence and even then, they tried to move us back twice.
Our final surprise was when we came home from a night out and found the Ryokan locked. So apparently there is a curfew at midnight and we had missed it, so they would not let us in.
Again, this is information that we would have appreciated before booking the hotel and certainly before being locked out.
Eventually after half an hour of making a nuisance of ourselves, they let us in.
Overall I would not recommend this place at all.More
