Me and my fiancee booked a flight back in April 2012 to visit Kyoto, Japan. She came across Kyoto Hana Hostel browsing through Tripadvisor and we simply thought this is the place we're going to stay. It's reputation says it all. It was our first trip to Japan and both of us were excited. During room reservation, we asked a lot of questions about our accommodation, how we should plan our trip via email to weather conditions and their staffs never fail to assist with answers. They attended to all our requests at their very best.
Kyoto Hana Hostel is 5 mins leisure walk away from Kyoto train station and 2 minutes away from Yodabashi Camera (a chain store that mainly sell electronic products and all sort of other things). There's a convenient store, a fast food chain Sukiya and other restaurant just around the corner. The location is just nice.
We checked in Kyoto Hana Hostel and we were welcome by warm and friendly staffs. They speak very good english. We also noticed there's a wall of 'testimonials' travelers wrote, emailed, posted to express their gratitude. It's just very assuring, yes, we made the right choice. There was also a white board forecasting cherry blossoms at several main sightseeing places and also weather forecast. We also found a bunch of useful information that helped travelers like us to further plan and refine our itineraries, find food, understanding festivals and so on. The reception even have stamps, chargers, bus tickets if we need any. There's a smoking area at the entrance to the hostel, common room, computer connected to internet, kitchen, luggage room, and also WIFI connection at every floor.
The ensuite japanese room ( Japanese style ) is fantastic. We get to make our own bed, sleeping on tatami, experiencing the Japanese culture. There's a big room to store luggage, private toilet, bathtub, wifi connection, TV, small table, sitting cushion and air conditioner. We just love it.
For a first timer, knowing where to get good food is essential. They gave us a list of restaurant, cafes, shops that is very handy. Their friendly staffs shared with us some of their local favorite places to have Ramens, okonomiyaki, sushi etc. It became our favorites too. They also shared with us latest news, renovation updates, sight seeing places we should visit or skip. One of the heart warming plus point that Kyoto Hana hostel has is they have in-house parties all the time. We stayed several nights and earned ourselves a choice to get cash rebate or free bicycle for a day. Bicycle can be rented at 1000 - 1500 yen per day at any bicycle renting shop. So we were happy we can save up a little while enjoying spring breeze exploring Kyoto.
The only thing that i wish to have is elevator. Ensuite japanese room is on top floors and i had to carry my luggage up and down the stairs. It's not fun when it's a huge and heavy luggage.
It was truly a unforgettable trip and we made a lot of friends here. We loved it so much, we went back again in early November 2012 for autumn right after our wedding. Likewise, with their help, we explored autumn scenery in Kyoto. We also joint fellow travelers, Kyoto Hana Hostel staffs and even Kyoto Hana Hostel CEO for their in-house Halloween party. The staffs even made a 'Happy wedding' cake just for the both of us. :)
I have personally recommended Kyoto Hana Hostel to every single person who asked how my Kyoto trip was. Value for money, amazing experience, great friends!
