This hotel is a very good hotel. It’s location is near the Imperial Palace and has good transportation links to Kyoto. It’s simple and stylish. It’s clean and comfortable.

The staff here were excellent and were so polite and helpful. The breakfast had several variations but the toast alone was perfect each morning along with some fruit/yoghurt. The thick bread is amazing!

The room though is the perfect blend of old and modern and feels like a great introduction for getting to know Japan. They also provided bathroom items for idiots (me) who might leave things at home. I’m not sure how bigger guests would feel as the rooms are just about right for shorter people, in my opinion.

We did a walking tour as well of local craft shops and, as we know now having toured other places, some bargains can be picked up along the shops. The walking tour gives you a good guidance to the local area and some history and various points out some areas of interest. It was fun and I think we wished we’d had this available earlier in our stay.

However, what I wish the tour had was some information on the local crafts people, who they are and what they do and maybe what their most popular items are. The tour probably would be good if it took in some paper gifts as well (as there are local shops only a street away from where we walked) and for tourists like us paper items generally weigh less in our luggage than pottery/wooden crafts.

The local streets around the hotel are nice but quiet at night. There are some handy local shops (we picked up drinks/snacks for the room) and there is even a McDonalds. I mention the McDonalds as it helps you to get your bearings when coming up from the underground. Some of the local restaurants are nice but don’t be put off by not knowing the restaurant by western standards/signage. The smells from some of the great places should be enough to entice you in! Lovely places and well worth trying.

If you don’t mind five - 10 minutes on a subway then this hotel is perfect for a stay in Kyoto.

I’ve reviewed some other things in Kyoto which I would recommend checking out whilst here.

Dear Needle23,

Thanks so much for your detailed review and feedback. Very much appreciated and will be shared with the Noku Family. We are all glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay.

And thanks for your points about our morning neighbourhood walking tours. These will also be passed on to the tour guide.

Great feedback about local restaurants. We have a map of some of our recommendations in all rooms and at the front desk. Our front desk team can also make other recommendations and assist with bookings. But as you mention, exploring is a lot of fun as well.

Hope that you can visit us again soon.

With best regards,

Keren

We opted for the Deluxe Twin Room, 4th Floor and were very impressed. The room was beautiful, large, comfortable, and had all the amenities necessary to add value. Slippers, Waters, Good Coffee, Full Bath amenities, a very LARGE closet, Tables and Shelf area were excellent for travelers, Day Couch to Relax, Refrigerator, Safe, Nice lighting options at night to give a romantic feel. The area is perfect, right next to Metro, major Bus stops, across from the Imperial Park and was a great base. Perfect cup of cappuccino in the morning to start the day. We did notice that large tour groups use this hotel, so availability will be affected and possibly price when they are down to just a few rooms. When you see the lower rate, book it! Well worth the price for the region and will assure you have full value. The front desk staff were extremely helpful and warm. Highly recommended if you want something "nice, central, large, comfortable and good value."

Room Tip: Deluxe Rooms instead of House Rooms and ask for Higher Floor.

We stayed there 3 rooms for a conference here in Kyoto. Rooms are big, comfortable and very clean. Breakfast could and should be improved. Not near many night places. Very much recommended. Good service and good English

My partner picked this hotel for its proximity to the Imperial Palace, while I was looking at hotels closer to the city center. It turned out to be a lovely stay. The room was large by Japanese standards, with special amenities such as bath salts, snacks and (not instant) coffee. I appreciated the choice for breakfast; Western set in the lobby cafe or Japanese set in the downstairs restaurant. The first morning my partner had the Western set and enjoyed it. I only ate the Japanese breakfasts and really liked them. We always enjoy a deep bathtub in Japan, especially as we walk A LOT and it is really nice to soak after hiking all day. There is plenty to see and do in this neighborhood. There is a subway stop next door and a bus stop close that goes straight to the popular Arashiyama spot. The staff was very nice and helpful, though I will say we didn't need to ask for much. We felt it was very worth the price to stay here and will return.

Room Tip: We found the standard room to be large for Japanese standards

Dear mrsdagle,

Thank you for your review!

Have to agree that our location is one of our key points with the Imperial Palace across the street and the very easy access to the subway and bus lines. And our good coffee.

Thank you for your feedback on the two breakfast venues. Your comments will be shared with both teams.

We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Warmest regards,

I loved staying at this hotel. The decor has a high-end, peaceful, minimalist, Japanese aesthetic, and the staff is as good as any 5-star hotel. They helped us make reservations, told us how to get places, would look things up and print out detailed instructions when they did not know things off the top of their heads, and even walked us out to catch taxis with umbrellas in the rain.

Our room also included breakfast, and we very much enjoyed the Japanese-style breakfast that included wagyu beef. (It wasn't the best wagyu I've had, but it was also significantly better than most complimentary hotel breakfasts I've experienced.)

The location was great - it's right across from the Imperial Palace, a short walk to Nijo Castle, and right next to a subway line. It's not in the center of night-life in Kyoto, but it's easy to get anywhere you need to go.
