Owner description: This museum showcases Osakan woodblocks from the Edo period, distinct from those in Tokyo due to their realistic expression of their subjects. Many feature famous Kabuki actors of the period.

The museum is very near to Shinibashi shopping district. A small building with 3 floors containing Japanese prints. Visiting the museum itself doesn't take long. However, if you plan your visit ahead of time, the museum will guide you through producing your own print. It is amazing how the wooden blocks are separate but are able to fill in even the smallest spaces with correct ink colors. The craft takes place on the top floor in a room with tatami mats and a kotatsu style table. An enjoyable experience which helped me to appreciate the intricate details and process of making a Japanese print. To do the experience, you have to e-mail at least 3 days in advance a day and time. I also translated the message to Japanese using Google translate just in case. E-mail details are on the website.

Excellent if........ you want to take a small workshop. Otherwise it is not worth it. A small gallery of some nice old works.
