“Great location, reasonable rates, comfortable hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2011

Stayed here for six nights in August 2011, and thoroughly enjoyed the hotel. The room was extremely good for the price, the location is good with excellent transport connections, especially to the airports (coaches leave for both Osaka and Kansai airports from outside the hotel), and the staff were professional and efficient. I will definitely be back at this hotel in the near future.

The only thing that could remind you are in a Sheraton is the logo in the key. The experience is quite far from the expectation Sheraton names provides. Rooms looks like in the 70s without any major reparation. Bathroom plenty of damp leaks.
Despite a non smoking room was selected the stink of the cigarrettes of the last 40 years remains with the room.
As possitive part there is a direct bus departing from the corner of the hotel to Kansai Airport. As well prices of the accommodation were far away from Sheraton standard prices

Stayed at the Sheraton Miyato Osaka for three nights and cannot believe that Sheraton is co-branding this place – it even has the Sheraton logo on the outside.

The rooms are HI Express (Asia) size and have dismal sound insulation - not more than what you would expect from a paper wall. Thus, if you want the genuine thrill of being right there when the sugar daddy in the room next to you arrives from the pub with a bunch of giggling loaded girls, no wall insulation will in any material way dampen that experience.

Floors are mixed smoke and non-smoke rooms but all smoke floors – the stench is shocking – your last deep breath before reaching your room has to be in the elevator.
Naturally, even non-smoke rooms have the background smell.

Towels are flimsy, amenities are ok, bathrooms and rooms were clean and in good working order.

Despite the brand, English runs at a very basic level. That starts with the webpage – try the transport options page, which for public transport gives you only the name of a private train line station but no JR and no subway. The idea that many longnoses may have a Japan Rail Pass and arrive at the outskirts of Osaka on JR didn’t hit anybody when designing that page.

As for the pool, the page is actually factually wrong: the hotel has no pool – it has a deal with a health club that has a pool but has restrictions that could have been copied from 1942 Germany: nobody under 12 years of age (forget the idea of the kids enjoying the a dive), nobody without a swim cap, nobody with a tattoo and so on.

Only consolation: the breakfast buffet is really good

Room Tip: I don't know if there is any good room - if so, we sure didn't get those...

We stayed here one night to catch a Hanshin Tigers baseball match. The hotel is on top of a metro station so very convenient to move around.

Also Osaka castle is around 20 minutes walk or a couple of metro stops. The castle is well worth a visit with a very interesting display on the unification of Japan in the 1600 hundreds (in English as well).

Hotel itself, including the rooms, is pretty non-descript. We got a very good rate through the Starwood website and that suited us fine as we only used the hotel to sleep. In the building next to the hotel there is a bus service to the airport, so once again the hotel is very conveniently linked to public transport in Osaka.

Full disclosure, I generally avoid convention class hotels, such as the Sheraton. Unfortunately my travel plans changed and I booked at this Sheraton in a non-renovated room (renovated was unavailable). The room was probably last updated in the 1970's, had writing on the inside door and I saw a fumigation person upon my departure (spraying the other rooms on my floor). The comforter was also very dated (yuck). I can tolerate a lot for one night, but the bed/bedding better be immaculate.

The location was okay, but staying near Nanba is preferential for train connections and general shopping. I enjoyed the rest of my time in Osaka at the Swiss Hotel at Nanba, which was amazing.
