If you are checking out budget Hotels in KL, but don't want the usual dated place, look no further!

This Hotel is a real innovation. It's modern, different andis a great place to stay.

Location is great - It's less than 5 minutes walk from Petaling Street, yet the area feels totally different form the old style KL nearby. Here feels upmarket, relaxed, rather refined. Right across from the Hotel is a pedestrian Square with a few swings and some water things that shoot water up into the air - coloured lights at night make it a fun display.

There are lots of eating places nearby. A few minutes walk to the fast food places, KFC, Burger King and McD. Also, plenty of daytime local places to eat providing local food. It's just 3 minutes from Central Market and on the first floor in Central Market there are a big range of eating places, everything from Thai, to Indonesian, to Chicken, to Western.

Plenty of 7 Eleven and news.com convenience stores every 100 metres almost.

The rooms use the shower / toilet in a frosted glass cubicle inside the room approach - a room within a room. They are small, yet comfortable and have just about everything you need - great, soft bed, desk area, plenty of lights, wall mounted TV, safe deposit box.

No wardrobe, though, just a couple of hook things on the wall to hang your stuff on, so bring a few hangers.

The lobby is spacious and has a really good vibe. It's ideal, since it's quiet and has good aircon, if you want to use it to work in, as a change from your room.

I didn't eat breakfast, but it looked appetising and is served in the lobby. Not a massive selection, but a range that should suit most.

If you need a big room, this place is not for you.

If the room size isn't important, then check this place out, it's modern, comfortable, clean, secure, in a great area, has a good feel to it and is fantastic value!

Highly recommended!

I booked with Avenue J Hotel (Central Market) in Kuala Lumpur for 2 nights (8th May -10th May) after reading some good reviews on Tripadvisor and several other booking websites. I was aiming to choose a budget boutique hotel with decent rate and a central location, and Aveneu J Hotel (Central Market) seemed to tick all the boxes.

Location - after arriving at KLIA, I took KLIA Ekspres to KL Sentral, and then the LRT to Masjid Jemek, which is the nearest LRT station to the hotel. At first, I thought the hotel was within easy reach of the station, but unfortunately, the tickets officer did not give me a very clear direction, and as you know, sometimes, some street signs can be open to subjective interpretation, and as such, I had to keep asking the passersby for even more direction before I was almost at the hotel doorstep. If you ever have to find the hotel, and see the HSBC building, you can be certain you are not that far off - it is just by the river.

Check In - it was smooth and quick. The hotel staff was quiet but polite.

Room - the facilities were adequate and decor was basic but both were able to cater for my needs. My room was overlooking the river and the Textile Museum.

Breakfast - they served fried rice, noodles, some dish, fruits, tea, coffee and fruit juice. Seemed basic but it didn't matter as I was more interested in the local food stalls, Chinese tea houses, and the vintage/ boutique cafes near Jalan Petaling (Chinatown)

Tourist Attractions - the hotel is right behind Central Market, and is within walkable distance to Textile Museum, Jalan Petaling (Chinatown), Sin Sze Ya Temple, Guan Di Temple and Sri Mahamariamman Temple..etc

Conclusion - overall, Avenue J Hotel (Central Market) is a budget boutique hotel that enjoys a very central location. It is served well by the LRT, and guests who want to explore the capital city can enquire about the availability of its day passes.

Once entered the room everything was not stocked inside, no towels no toilet roll no shampoo and body shampoo, even mineral water also don't have! Ask for staff for mineral water and they said don't have but there was 2 mineral water in the room I stayed 4 months ago!
Lots of female hairs on the floor and even 2 pubic hair on the bed. What shocked us even more was there was a female underwear underneath the bed when we separated the bed as shown in the photo below! Looks like the previous guests in this room have a quick sex here then check out, then the housekeeping staff just simply tidy the room and let the next guest to stay which is us. The housekeeping here really need to improve and get the standard back.
Stayed here for 2 nights but the room key card became invalid next day and has to be reactivated again which is troublesome.
Chose to stay here again instead of the much nearer Big M Hotel is because the previous staying experience here was good. The shower is great, the bathroom design is ideal as it doesn't flood everywhere after shower and the aircon location is better than Big M. The other good things here still remains now are the WiFi is fast and it's safe to stay here as the key card can only access to your floor in the lift. The aircon in the corridor is cold enough though after back from super hot weather outside but we will stay a much nearer and more convenient Big M Hotel next time instead which is just beside the LRT station and don't have to walk 5 mins to this hotel and also better housekeeping and service at Big M which is the same price or cheaper than Avenue J sometimes.

Good location, but my entire room was filthy. The cleaning ‘crew’ finally came but it was just a teen boy who basically grazed over everything. No clean sheets or blankets or change of pillow cases. This place was definitely not what I expected from the photos. I love that area but I pass on ever staying there again.

Very close to Central Market and Dataran Merdeka. Within walking distance to Petaling Street. Close to minimarket and Indian restaurant. I can see the street and river outside the window. The room itself is not too big. The bathroom is small but clean. Too bad the shower wall is only a half so the bathroom can get wet. IMO they should improve the cleanliness because when my sister want to boil the water, she found water inside the kettle. Do they never wash the kettle? And, I saw dirt in the wall in front of the sink.
From KLIA you can take Star Shuttle bus to Pudu Sentral. Don't take Eramesra bus because it's final destination is KL Sentral, from there they will ask you to take a van (free of charge) and drop you somewhere near Pudu Sentral. If you want them to drop you at your hotel you need to pay more, I don't know how much is it. If you want to go to KLIA or KLIA2 you can take Star shuttle from Pudu Sentral. It cost MYR 12.
