This is an experience and a half. Mainly Chinese restaurants but lthere is plenty of choice. Music plays from buskers, the lights and the bustle of the street are amazing. Frog porridge, chicken fish, satay, soups and beers on offer- you can’t visit k.l without a visit here!

Visited Jalan Alor a good few times now, it’s always busy. Which is great for the many businesses and stalls which line the street.
The food is good, from what I’ve had. Not the highest or best quality in KL, understandably. The prices are very good for what you get. And there’s more options than you could even try and think about! Very popular with tourists and locals from observations.
You get pestered by begging and sales persons during your visit multiple times without failure. But the atmosphere is lovely, and the open market vibe is quite immersive.
It’s a skill to calmly walk down this street, and not seem annoyed by the constant beckoning by servers into the various eating establishments.
I would definitely go for the experience, I’ve never been ill or dissatisfied by this area.

Lots of choices but not necessary the best food around town. We walk around for a while and finally decided to stop into one of the many restaurants. The photos shown in the menu looks much better than the actual dish that’s delivered.

We ordered the Bak Kut Teh and the rice porridge. The porridge was good, however the Bak Kut Teh was a real disappointment. Eventually we paid and left and walked to Lot 10band found the same food much better and 40% cheaper. Mind you Lot 10 is not the real street food but it’s a good facsimile of the actual street food around KL.

In summary, Jalan Alor is meant for tourists and not where the locals go.

First off, walk down this street from end to end and take note of what you want to try - the only limit would be your appetite. Most restaurants serve more or less the same thing (grilled seafood/meats, stir fried vegetables), but I'm partial to the grilled "chicken fish" and salted egg squid at the Lalola Restorang Meng Kee. The smaller stalls are also recommended for the giant dimsum and meats on skewers.

Jalan Alor food street is a must ! If you like Asian food, this is the place to go in KL. From Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Thai, Malaysian, Indian - you can find it here ! It’s a long street of restaurants and eating in the street is definitely the Asian way. And cheap too. It’s about 10 minutes walk from Pavilion, a good place to go and eat after shopping/walking around.
