“Good value and service at KLCC”
Reviewed 22 March 2012

Stayed for 3 nights in March on a business trip. The club staff were very helpful (especially Dian) when I had to check out 1 day early and called the airline on my behalf to change my flight. Although the breakfast spread downstairs was bigger, I preferred the personalized service in the Club lounge. Having stayed at the Mandarin Oriental KL previously, the Traders offers better value and decent service. The only downside of staying here is the lift service. You have to insert your room card to access the club lounge and room floors and the system does not always recognize your card, so you may land up having to get off the lift because it zooms off in the opposite direction. FYI, the cabs waiting for hotel guests are 'executive' (blue) and not the 'budget' (red) cabs. When I took a budget cab from KL Sentral station to Traders, the cost was RM 14 but the return journey was twice as expensive.

Room Tip: Pick club rooms.

Ever seen the Toyota ad with the guy jumping in joy, that is what it feels like to stay at Traders KL. It is an exciting hotel and one I would recommend to anyone.
Mercedes S class limousine was waiting for us at the airport with refreshing cold towels and took us straight in to town. Reception was in our room - I haven't found that anywhere else in the world - and was very quick. We hardly had time to unpack before it was afternoon tea time. Having just come from the Peninsular Hong Kong high tea the previous afternoon we could make a direct comparison, and there was none. Traders afternoon tea is much better presented and the food is excellent. Perhaps the only difference was the white linnen at Peninsular, but you really can't taste that!
Our room faced the Petronas towers and we had a postcard view of the place.
The Gobo Upstairs was featuring a 7 course degustation dinner, so we took advantage of that. I would have to say the service, quality of food, matching of wines, overall ambience and taste was the second best I have ever had and at a much reduced price to what you would expect to pay for such a meal. The best in my books, by the way, was in Como, Italy.
Skybar has to be experienced to be believed. Photos and stories of it will not do justice to the actual thing. In a word - spectacular comes to mind.
The staff were always helpful and very courteous. I speak Malay, so it helped break the ice with a little bit of joking and the like, but even before they knew of my language capability the staff were really fantastic to us.
At the regretful end of our stay the hotel whisked us back to the airport and already had worked out our flight counter. Certainly I have seldom found such a good hotel. Oh, what a feeling!

Room Tip: As everyone says, get the view of the Towers and the central park area. Stretch your budget a littl...

Great location, awesome view, helpful and friendly staff, good bar up top and all that you could ever need from a hotel of this standard and more. Stayed for a week and will definitely return again to this hotel next time in town.

I stayed for 11 nights at the beginning of March on business. I stayed in a deluxe room with city view. The room was clean and very comfortable. I used most of the facilities and I found the service to be excellent - the staff always helpful and polite.
The food quality was very good with lots of choice at breakfast and lunchtime. I found the menu in the Gobo upstairs restaurant a little limited and drinks expensive, however, took advantage of the 'happy hour' in the Skybar - the views are fantastic from here. I used the business centre on a number of occasions; there was no charge for use of PC's and printing was very reasonably priced.
A big plus for me was the position of the hotel. As I had very little free time, the closeness of the shopping centres (Suria and Pavillions) meant that I was still able to easily get out for a couple of hours in the evening. I would definitely stay here again.

We visited the Traders on the last night of our stay in KL. We visited the Sky Bar and the Gobo Upstairs. Firstly the Sky Bar is a well laid out bar around he hotel swimming pool, admittedly some people will think the swimming pool is a waste of space, but I thought this is quirky and spaced out the patrons. There were also floating lights in the pool. The happy hour on margaritas was good value although the cocktails were very small. The service is the bar was ok, it took a long while to be served but once the waitress turned up the service was quick and efficient.

We also ate in the Gobo Upstairs after we received no service in the Gobo Chit Chat where we sat down for 20 mins and no-one even spoke to us. The service in the Gobo Upstairs was much better with the waiter really chatting to us and the general service was excellent. We had a New York strip and a Rib Eye both of which were cooked as requested and the ratatouille plus the beans we ordered as sides were very tasty.

Overall the Gobo Upstairs service was excellent and the food was great but the service in the Gobo Chit Chat was dreadful. The food in the Gobo Upstairs was very tasty and the cocktails in the Sky Bar was good. The view over the Petronas Towers was very good and we enjoyed the drinks and the view.
