SAffron is a local gem in Ambler. A small, personal restaurant in 5he heart o& Ambler. Non assuming tasteful delight. Everything is exciting and good tasting. Helpful staff, quick service, average prices. Worth a trip into Ambler

We went for lunch. It's hard to know where to start. The staff was welcoming, service was good. The food was not. First, the dosa; instead of a cylindrical crispy shell, we got a flat soggy crepe. The panir was sweet, vegetable curries bland even though we asked for spicy. The chicken saag likewise. We got the impression that the formula was to simplify, tone down and sweeten to suit American palates.Don't go if you want the real thing.

Consistently good local Indian restaurant. Great meat and vegetarian dishes, with many of the classic Tikka dishes, great Nan. Try the rice pudding dessert.

Yesterday we met friends for Sunday Lunch at the Saffron Restaurant in Ambler, PA. There are several Saffron restaurants in the area. Over the years we have eaten there or done take out a number of times. The room was pleasant and quiet. Service was helpful. We enjoyed the appetizers of vegetables in a tamarind sauce with crisp dough, a cool refreshing start to the meal. The other appetizer was a masala dosa, a large lentil based crepe filled with curried potatoes, a long time favorite. Among ourselves we ordered a spinach dish, a dish with spicy chunks of chicken, a sizzling platter of tandoori chicken and a large plate of grilled vegetables with pullao rice, made with dried fruit. We also ordered breads--garlic and peshawari naan (filled with cocoanut and cashews). We had bottled water that had been left out on the table. The filtered water is fine, but we opened it automatically. We had generous leftovers to take home for another meal. It was fun to find that Saffron Kitchen has maintained the quality of its cuisine, ambiance and service. We'll be visiting again.
