I have visited The Henry Clay Inn on several occasions, and I am always pleased. The building has lovely architecture, with sitting rooms on the first 2 floors and a big wide front porch. It is extraordinarily quiet even when trains pass. The building and windows don't even rattle when the train passes! The inn keepers are wonderfully helpful and kind. The antique furnishings are lovely and the rooms are immaculate. The bed in room 101 was a gorgeous old sleigh bed and very comfortable. Breakfast was perfectly cooked and delicious, with a choice of eating in the dining room or on the porch. I'll be back many times, even though I live just south of Richmond.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are wonderful, but if someone wants to see sunrise, the front of the house provides...

Stayed here with my family on a recent work trip to Randolph-Macon College. The hotel is absolutely beautiful. Rooms were clean. My son loved the games available on the second floor. Breakfast was nice and staff were friendly. I was sad when it was time to check out. I felt lucky they we got to stay there.

Our weekly meeting room is at The Henry Clay Inn. The owner is gracious and helpful when we need something and always takes time to speak. My experience with them has been positive and fellow Rotarians that have had their Sunday Brunch tell me it's quite good.

My daughter and I stayed at the Henry Clay Inn for 2 nights. The Innkeepers were so thoughtful and thorough. They do not miss a beat. We had a room on the first floor back of the building. You can go onto the porch and right to the parking area from your room, great feature. It was quiet even when the trains went by. The Inn has been recently renovated beautifully, with several sitting areas and Keurig and water 24 hours. High end Gilchrist and Soames toiletries, soft towels and new sheets and mattresses. Also central air conditioning with your own thermostat. Refrigerator, irons and blow dryers in the room and private baths. Breakfast is included in the very reasonable rates. The food was made fresh, with local ingredients and was delicious. If you are on a time crunch they will make it to go. They also offer some spa treatments too. It is such a calm, friendly and peaceful historic town, perfect if you want to get away from the rat race! You can walk to restaurants, shops etc. Or catch the train out. We will be going back soon.

Nice stay. The room was clean, updated. Comfy bed, surprisingly quiet given proximity to tracks. Good location, friendly hosts, excellent breakfast. Great porches both off of common area and off of room. Looks like a lot of the problems in other reviews were under old management; we didn't have any of the issues mentioned.
