Let me repeat: gastronomic excellence.

During our short stay on Ihla Grande by Praia Vermelha, the Casa do Chef Bistro by Eduardo de Castro was our one and only restaurant. Over the course of three nights, Eduardo prepared delectable fish, seafood, and rice dishes that presented the very best of the day's catch from the local fisherman who come to shore every day just a few steps from the Casa.

We found that the Casa provides a truly exquisite 'haute cuisine' experience without a trace of pretentiousness. Eduardo prepares his dishes with an incredible passion and respect, while drawing on Portuguese, French, and Brazilian culinary influences. Love and technique are abundantly evident in everything he serves.

I could go on about his sardines, barracuda, ceviche, and famous 'riz de la mer' – but I will keep this short. This is an absolute MUST experience on Ihla Grande, and if I dare say so, in all of Brazil.

Every night Eduardo told us that it was a pleasure for him to cook for us. Eduardo, if you are reading this, please know how much of a pleasure it was for US to be in your company, to eat your food, and to sit at your table.

We'll be back, without question.

During our stay in Vermelha, my fiance and I were recommended to seek out this hidden gem of a restaurant, Casa do Chef Bistro. Nestled slightly back off the beach, but still with a view, this perfect one-man-show restaurant boasts some of the best food you will eat in Brazil! Eduardo is simply a fantastic chef; his years of cooking around the world result in unique and exquisite blends of flavors, where each bite can be savored. To further add to the "experience," as he would say, Eduardo will regale you with stories of his travels and cooking -- like old friends catching up. When he found out we had recently gotten engaged, he even poured drinks and toasted with us!

The experience was so delightful, we went two of our three days there (he was traveling our third day). The second day, we had an amazing clam appetizer that he was especially excited to make for us, a delectable fish/rice lunch dish for two, and the best chocolate mousse either of us have had. It was plenty of food, but I was so sad that I wouldn't have another chance to eat his perfectly prepared ceviche (which we had the day before), I ordered it... after dessert. It was delicious.

We both highly recommend you take the opportunity experience this delicious food and great company. Thank you for the memories, Chef!

Coming to this very good, but small restaurant is like having dinner at a friends home. Well, the restaurant is located in the private house of owner, cook and waiter Eduardo de Castro, who travelled around the world for collecting inspiration and do the cooking. So enjoy a warm welcome, than a cold drink, followed by a fresh, creativ and light dinner with local fish, meat and vegetables on the romantic veranda at the beautiful Praia Vermelha!

At our stay at the small beach in Praia Vermelha we were recommended to have dinner at the small fish restaurant Casa do Chef Bistro run by Eduardo from Portugal. With his 5-6 table restaurant he was both cook and waiter. The fish and rice dish tastet nam, nam. The other day we had a white fish (do not remember the name) also so tasty. We are used to eat fresh fish from the coast of Norway, but the fish here at Eduardo`s impressed us! We also recommend the chocolate fondant with lemon sorbet. Eduardo`s hospitality and koocking put an extra dimension to our stay at Praia Vermelha:-). Helge and Ragnhild from Norway
