Unbeatable location right on the beach at Copacabana with easy access to Ipanema. Great buffet breakfast, quick room service and handy rooftop bar. The walls are paper thin so a noisy neighbour made for one restless night... but still wouldn't hesitate to book and stay at Orla again.

Starting with the positives, this hotel is in quite a good location if you are new to Rio and want to be in the main tourist area. Right opposite Copacabana beach and within walking distance to Ipanema the location is pretty good. We booked a room with an ocean view and it was lovely to wake up to that view.
With positives comes negatives so here are a few to consider. The hotel and the rooms are very dated and not all that clean. The bathrooms could do with a serious grout cleaning, I shudder to think how much bacteria is in these bathrooms! The staff are not rude but are by no means particularly friendly either. I noticed that there is not one woman working in this hotel that isn't a housekeeper. Not to sound too feminist but there really should be an equal mix of male and female workers, especially at the front desk. The staff could really do with some training on how to be a bit more personable and friendly. I noticed on several occasions all the men hanging out in the front reception chatting amongst themselves and not really paying attention to guests, definitely a boys club kind of feel.
I also tried to order room service on a rainy day and spoke in perfect Portuguese over the phone (i know this because my partner is Brazilian and was listening) but apparently my order of a "Sanduiche Light" was far too complex and I was transferred to different departments and then hung up on. Lovely.
Overall, not a terrible place to stay but given what you pay I'd be more inclined to stay in an area like Barra de Tijuca which is safer and nicer. You can always catch a taxi to Copacabana if you are the type that has to 'be seen'. Next time, I'd most likely stay somewhere else.

Only 50metres over the busy road from Copacabana and on the beach front and main drag. At the end of the beach close to the fort. The small gym is ok. The roof terrace small but great view of the strip. Don't bother with the pool unless the weather is super hot and you don't want to go in the sea, it's more like a large bath tub. Location for Rio is fairly quiet and no noise at night apart from people having sex (but that didn't last long!) walls of hotel fairly thin. Bfast healthy and plenty full and staff (all male from reception to waiters) seemed professional but not overly friendly. I suppose you get what you pay for and no massive issues.
Room was very basic and cleaned a bit late on in the day and the air con was basic and ancient. Overall ok but not luxury. If all you want to do is sleep and go out in the days and have a good location near the major sites then this is an ok place to stay.

my husband and I arrived at this Hotel with one suitcase each and one
piece of hand luggage .
We were allocated a room but the receptionist saw our luggage and said
he would upgrade us to a superior room as the original room was too small
to accommodate us and our luggage .
On entering the room there was no view at all only another building about 5ft away from
our window and only a little sunlight .
The breakfast and dining room is so small , you have to turn sideways to pass between tables
because of the amount of tables in the room.
It is a good breakfast with a good selection of choices .
A great location right across from Copocabana beach and a short walk to
Ipanema beach .
If I were to use this Hotel again I would ask for an upgrade to a sea view room.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
