Located in the relative peace and quiet of Urca, this is my favourite place to stay in Rio. Great view across the water towards Corcovado (Christ the Redeemer). Friendly and helpful staff. Lovely homemade breakfast. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Get a seaview room if you can.

Me and my friend stayed at this beautiful and cosy hotel around 6 nights. We enjoyed it really much. Everything was perfect: The view, the location, the breakfast, the wonderful room, the price and of course the very nice owner and all his employees. I can highly recomment this place to every traveller that steps by.

The owner and staff are super nice, attentive and helpful. They would go the extra mile to help us out. We had a big bag of dirty cloths needed washing. Although they don't have laundry service there, the owner understood that our schedule was tight, and took our bag and sent it to an outside laundry shop for us and gave back to us clean cloths in the evening. He also walked us to the bus stop, made sure we got the right bus, and talked to the bus driver about notifying us of our stop.

The location is perfect. Very safe, nice and convenient. Just downstairs are bus stops, restaurants, bakeries, grocery stores, banks, police station... And on the roof top terrace where breakfast is served, there is wonderful view of the waterfront and the Christ the Redeemer statue on the mountain. Walking distance to Sugarloaf Mountain cable car station, trail and a small nice beach (red beach).

Breakfast is wonderful, lots of choices, fresh cake, fresh fruits, juice, yogurt, eggs made by order, cheese and meat.

The shower is kind of cold (we were there during the winter). Not too bad since it's not too cold in Rio even in winter. But since I was sick during the time, hot shower would be nicer.

Our room faces the street. There were lots of people gathered there partying during the night and is very noisy. We got used to it the second night though. We embraced it as part of the culture we were there to experience.

They also arranged picking up and sending off transportation for us. This taxi company is a little more expensive than regular taxi, but the drivers are very nice and helpful.

We love this place. It felt like we had family/friends there that we could count on for help in this foreign country.

Room Tip: Rooms on the mountain side are quieter. Rooms on the ocean side are noisy, but with nice views.

Title says it all - delightful B&B with friendly staff, wonderful breakfast and view across the bay. As other reviewers have pointed out, this is a small friendly guest house, not a standard bland hotel. Arriving late at night I was intimately a bit nervous at the entrance - a door between a shop and a bar, and most of the bar customers outside sitting on the sea-wall, but as soon as I got inside I was caught up in the friendly warm atmosphere. Andreas and his staff do a wonderful job at making everyone feel welcomed and looked after. The rooms are traditional with old furniture and paintings, and pretty bed-linden, and the bathrooms are fine - mine had recently been modernised I think. At breakfast the next morning I really realised how special this place is - fantastic views from the shady roof-terrace overlooking the bay, with the sugarloaf mountain right behind us. Everything at breakfast was homemade - wonderful cakes, quiche and fresh fruit. I was there for a conference just around the corner, very convenient to walk in a safe district. And about 10 minutes walk away is the lovely Praha Vermelho beach, a little bay with Sugarloaf mountain on one side and a similar rocky cliff the other. Sit on the beach; or take the cable car to the top of the sugarloaf; or hike along the lovely trail through the woods below the sugarloaf (entrance just above the beach on the left hand side as you face the shore). Fantastic place!

Andreas makes sure you absorb the Urca atmosphere feeding you with the useful and the less obvious bits to make you a "less token item" and more of a transiting "local"...
Our room was on the front, with sea view, but infact it was in effect a decent-sized one bedroom apartment..with a lovely "antecamera", a nice sized bedroom and bathroom. The decor is more of a friend's home with good taste than an average hotel. If you are so so lazy all you have to do for a drink is turn right form the front door and order it from the bar next to it. And the next shop happens to be a bakery...so you are pretty much well sorted even without crossing the road...

Urca is a residential, QUITE, small quarter with its own sunday fruit n veg market, quite a few restaurants, shops and most buses you even need to go to any of the Rio main amenities.

We will be back!

Room Tip: Quieter at the back, the rooms at the front may have a bit of noise early evening fromt the bar
