If you dont want the crowded beach front hotels of Rio and you like interesting boutique hotels then this is for you. Once the home of the mayor of Rio and renovated by frenchman Jean Michel Ruis, the rooms (just 7 of them) are spacious and there is a marvellous collection of art and interesting furniture. There is a lovely small pool.
The receptionists are both very helpful for advising on restaurants, general safety (which is very important in Rio) booking taxis and the like.
Although not far from the coast, it is up a steep hill and walking back in hot weather is best avoided! Fortunately, taxis are cheap.
