When we visit Veliko Turnovo we love to stay in hotel Etar. There are many reasons for our preference. With its 15 floors it is the tallest building in this unique archeological and historic city and provides great views of the surrounding hills with houses stacked one over the other. The hotel is only 2 star but the rooms are spacious, comfortable, air-conditioned and very clean. Breakfast is good too. Staff is friendly and accommodating. We usually stay in a luxury double room that provides a great view to the old city and is about € 40, breakfast included. This time we booked a room with a bathtub on the 8th floor. Upon arrival we were told that our room was not available and we were upgraded to an apartment on the 13th floor. The apartment was marvelous, with living room, bedroom and bathroom as big as the bedroom with big soaker tub and a separate shower. The hotel is centrally located and there is a bus stop in front of it to and from various cities. We usually travel from Sofia which is a 3 hours bus ride and staying in this hotel contributes to our experience in the city. Veliko Turnovo is our favorite Bulgarian city.

Room Tip: luxury double room have view, appartment on 13th floor is spacious

Nothing special, but if you think that it has a 2 stars rating, then it is more than good.
Staff was very friendly, and everyone we talked with, spoke good English
The rooms we were given were not very big - bathrooms also small, but both very clean.
Breakfast was OK and breakfast room very tidy although a big group of visitors have left minutes before we get there.
As we arrived very late at night and we were just passing-by, we did not had the time to explore the area around the hotel, but it seemed like we were close both the city center and old city

All in all, a good hotel .

PS - This is the first hotel I stayed and did not had to worry about charging gadgets - There were 6 free plugs in the room !!!

Great value hotel, good basic rooms with very good aircon, amazing views over the city and hills from 7th floor upwards,no road noise.Churches and monastries only a short walk, taxi rank and tourist info just round the corner.Very good english speaking staff on reception and in the 2restaurants,photo style menus but dont be put off by that, food was amazing!! Great little terrace bar overlooking the town as well.Rooms good, wetroom shower bathrooms, clean. The staff made this hotel stand out, they were so friendly and helpful.its also got a coaqch stop for all the major carriers outside.Well worth a try, food and service worth going back for time and again.

Room Tip: rooms facing city the best
