First of all, the road leading up to the hotel is pretty narrow, so our coach bus could not navigate up the street. However, hotel made arrangements for our luggages to be transported up (there's a slight incline leading up). Secondly, the lift in the hotel is pretty small, only fit 2 pax and 2 medium sized luggages at a time. Insufficient lighting in the room, hence the cosy feel. Do not expect much from the restaurant, had dinner and breakfast there. Pretty simple, no frills. However, not what I'm expecting from a 4 star location.
But! the location is great, in the middle of old town and the little souvenir shop in the hotel did open early to accommodate our early departure the next morning for us to grab some last minute items!

Not sure which hotel to stay at I ended up staying one night at the Asenevtsi Park hotel and one night at Veliko Tărnovo hotel Premier. Asventsi is not in the city centre but a 3 minuet taxi ride away in a very quiet area surrounded by mountains which is peaceful and relaxing.

Hotel Premier is in the heart of the town so is quite noisy and bustling. Asventsi is exceptionally clean ,modern and well maintained by friendly staff. At the Hotel Premier the rooms are very dated and except for one person at reception it felt like I was doing them a favour stating there. No real customer service, that being said it is clean and all the sights f a very beautiful old town are within walking distance. Depending what you want and not knowing the hotels I would chose Asvenetsi.

Unfortunately we arrived in independence day so the road was closed and we couldn't get into the car park so a bit stressful. It would have been helpful for the hotel to have emailed everyone due to arrive that day to tell them this! Although well located everything we asked for seemed to be no longer in use, such as the indoor pool or the laundry service. In addition it stated there was 24 hour room service, look in the blue book in your room , there was no blue book. Maybe we could have asked but we had given up by then. What was blue however were some of the TV channels, interestingly positioned between two Bulgarian folk channels, quite a surprise so keep the kids away from the remote control!!

We liked this hotel very much because we had a huge room with a wonderful view. The pool on the roof is also a plus, but don't get too excited as it is very small and always full of children. The hotel is mostly a family one.
Unfortunately we were very disappointing with the breakfast. For a 4 stars hotel it is incredibly low quality. No fresh juices, no real coffee and the cheeses and meats were very bad.
However, the price we paid was very low so I guess we should have seen it coming.

The location is perfect, in the center but away from the main street. Rooms are OK and comfortable. In the immediate vicinity is a cafe / bar (I dont remember the name, but is right at the beginning of the alley that goes to the hotel) where I had one of the best mojitos in years. We had free wifi. I didnt have the opportunity to use the spa.
