This beautiful hotel had it all - a great location, very comfortable rooms, lovely grounds with 6 small swimming pools, a good restaurant (though the service was a little slow) but best of all the tours and excursions the hotel provided were excellent with knowledgeable, friendly guides for a wide range of activities. We enjoyed all of them but a couple of highlights were a wonderful hike in a river valley and a very informative astronomy lesson while enjoying an amazing night sky.

Dear Jenny,
Thanks for taking the time to write about your wonderful experience at Alto Atacama.
Seems that you truly enjoyed it. The hike through the river is Cardones Gorge, the one with big cactus, is really amazing, is one of our highlights like you mentioned. Th astronomy tour is also a great way to discover chilean sky.

Please let us know if you are planning to come back.
Best Regards,

Alto Atacama Team

A wonderful lodge, located a few minutes from the town of San Pedro but in a very quiet area day and night. Its 42 rooms are arranged in a broken line and have a patio, the one-storey structures of the lodge are hardly visible in their color of the surrounding red cliffs. 6 pools with sunbeds, 2 jaccuzzis and a sauna keep you happy if you go for wellness. For those who think they can't be without, there are 3 PC stations near the lobby and WiFi in every room. Fortunately, there is no TV.
It's a good idea to book no less than 4 days and the all-inclusive package. This will offer you free half-day or full-day excursions or even longer options, shuttle service to San Pedro and the Airport of Calama. There's even a lesson on astronomy with the hotel-owned telescope. The excursions are accompanied by experienced guides who know what they're talking about. Food and beverages are great, all staff very friendly and caring. All in all: a very charming top lodge.

We spent 6 nights at the hotel and had a fantastic time. The room was very good: ours overlooked the river and was large, had a comfortable outside space and a good bathroom. The wifi didn't work in the room but that wasn't a problem for us. We were full board and we found the meals to be fine - there are specials every day, and we mostly went for these, but there is also a reasonable standard menu. The most important component, however, is the excursions. We made maximum use of our time in the Atacama and managed to get out and about everyday, including the evening of our arrival and the full morning of the day of our departure. Most people seemed to be staying for three or four nights so we probably went off the beaten track a bit but the hotel was more than happy to put extra hikes on the itinerary for us. The key we found was to talk to the excursion organiser as often as possible and also to talk to the other guests about which trips they liked the best. The highlight was the quality of the guides: several were locals and all were very friendly, knowledgeable and informative.

Dear Danny,

First of all, we would like to thank you for staying at the Hotel more than the average guests do. Seems you really enjoyed it, and were totally decided to get " a desert immersion" starting from the deepest counterpoint: San Pedro de Atacama.

Rugged, wild and remote, San Pedro is known for its dramatic and colorful geology. The landscape is breathtaking and diverse despite the harshness of the environment. The wildlife is plentiful thanks to ephemeral river that you could perfectly see from your terrace.
We could talk for hours, but I'm sure we both agree on the same definition : Absolutely transforming and otherworldly experience.

Please contact us again if you are planning to come back. We will be happy to help you organize new excursions.

Best Regards,
Alto Atacama Team

This was a last minute booking and damn... the best plans are spontaneous ones....

Rooms: Clean and huge with all modern facilities and all come with a backyard that opens up to the valley. Rooms are not super fancy but very cozy and comfortable.

Service: Very good staff that are eager to help and can guide you with the different trip and tours that you must take. This part of the world is heaven and you better ask the locals what you should see to avoid wasting time.

Ambiance: Great outdoor and communal place with a beautiful pool which is surrounded by high snow capped mountains. The view from the hotel is unlike any place one earth. The place has fire pits in the evening and its great to come by and relax with a chilled cocktails after a tiring day of tours.

Would love to come back here but please book early as this resort can get quite expensive.

Visited alto Atacama for 4 nights. A great lodge set in a stunning landscape of red rock cliffs in the middle of the desert. The service and staff friendly and excellent. Great to eat lunch by the pool or outside the restaurant. Very good food and wines in the all inclusive package. The tours are a great highlight and you can do 2 a day with a good break in between for resting. The cactus hike, geysers, and cycle through the Devils throat canyon are not to be missed also the puritans springs are amazing.
