My partner and I stayed here, whilst in Huangshan trying to find her father's former residence in Huangshan or Xiuning.

The hotel is basic but pretty good. Being cheapskates we opted for the cheapest room possible. The hotel was undergoing some renovation work at the time, but we were not inconvenienced in any way. The food was excellent.

The owner and his wife were very kind and treated us like family especially after finding out that my partner's father came from the area.

We will definitely stay there again. The receptionist spoke English quite well. Nice location at the end of the old street by the picturesque bridge.

If you walk out of the restaurant into Old Street, there is a small bar on the opposite side of the street that is quite like a cozy British pub in terms of hospitality. It is well worth a visit too!

This is a nice enough hotel at the very end of old street. This makes it a bit of a walk into the hustle bustle of the centre but I think this might be a plus!

The rooms are fine, clean and spacious.

At night walk to the river for the light show and bridge prettily lit up.

One downside is that if you ask any questions regarding local activities (especially taking public transport) - the one hotel emplyee that speaks English says tat they can arrange it for you with a private driver. If you ask about public transport she says there isn't any.

This got a bit tiring and we quickly stopped asking - as there always was a simple public transport option - but a bit annoying as it is usually the hotel who can help you with these details.

There is a helpful tourist info office in town so use them!

There is a restaurant at the hotel but we didn't eat here so can't comment.

If you cross the bridge away from the old town there is an impressive marina area with lots of new cafés etc - it was very quiet but worth a look as there are some lovely old buildings in there too.

For taxis just walk out the front and flag one down - you are on the mai road to the bus station.

I stayed at this hotel in mid-Nov. 2014. The rate, one hundred twenty rmb for a standard room, seems fair enough. However, you get what you pay for. The hotel is old, almost run down, and doesn't offer any breakfast options. The front-desk staff of one (at any one time) didn't speak English. Sure, the hotel's location at the entrance to Old Street is convenient but the Tunxi Lodge is only 50 meters away and is another option. I didn't see its rooms but did pay for a b-fast (thirty-five rmb) at the lodge: it was a basic eggs, toast, and bacon meal--acceptable but nothing special. And, the waitress/cook didn't speak English. Anyway, if you can afford it, don't stay at the Old Street Hotel (or even the Tunxi Lodge) because you can do better.

Room tip: I looked at several rooms and none offered any type of "good view." From my room on the fifth floor (#502?) you could see over some buildings to the river--ask for a river-view room. It was a quiet room with little street noise.

Very beautiful and very authentic ancient hotel.

Location is also very strategic. Come out from the main entrance, turn left and you are in Tunxi Ancient Street.

From the main entrance, cross the main road and cross the bridge, you can get to a beautiful cultural centre which will be located on the left side after the bridge.

For breakfast, lunch and dinner come out from the main entrance and turn right. There are lots of food shops.

Cons ; There are some renovation going on at the moment. So a bit dusty. And also no wifi in rooms. Wifi only available in the lobby and first floor.

Will we stay there again ? YES !

Booked for one night a cheap, windowless room after arriving in the evening - wanted to walk around a bit in Old Street before heading to Xidi next day.
Room on 3rd floor was clean. One gets all the noise from the corridor though. Staff seemed to be quite unmotivated but helped when asked (in Chinese). Good enough for what I paid for!
