Kelly Ingram Park, which is on the larger Birmingham Civil Rights Heritage Trail, includes several markers for the trail around its perimeter and a series of moving, sometimes chilling interpretive sculptures within the park itself. Especially impactful for me was the sculpture of a police officer siccing a German Shepherd on a young boy—a monument to the importance of the student protests in Birmingham and the violence these children were met with.

As with other parks I saw in Birmingham, this one was really nicely manicured and well kept, with broad expanses of grass and wide walking paths.

An amazing park, worth the visit. There are sculptures spread through the park with associated plaques telling the story of 1963 Birmingham. Many of the sculptures are extremely moving, evoking fear, sadness, and anger, but also hope for a better world. I went around sunrise and it was pretty good lighting for great photos. The park was pretty empty around that time.

The park provides a glimpse of the struggles endured by the children of Birmingham during the fight for civil rights. The sculptures are very moving and provide a painful reminder of our history. The park is part of a longer walk and sits next to the Civil Rights Institute.

We had some time before we could enter the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, so we walked through this park which is filled with statues, sculpture, and explanatory material pertaining to the Civil Rights history of Alabama. The park is well landscaped and small enough that you can easily see all the objects. The reflecting pools were not yet filled, but that didn't matter to me.

If you are going to the Civil Rights Institute, you should be sure to cross the street from the Institute and walk through this park.It is part of the experience.

This park is across from Birmingham Civil Rights Center and is a great place to wander, look at the memorials, sit and reflect. The atrocities committed by whites on the black civil rights protestors is brought full on and the Park memorializes those brave protestors. Well worth the visit and time.
