Surrounded by vinyards, The Silk Road Lodges (the Vines) is just outside Turpan in the village of Muna'er, a short taxi ride from the city center, night market, etc.. The Vines has the feel of a rustic guest house rather than an urban hotel—much to its benefit; the new addition (currently under construction) will apparently retain this feel. We were welcomed at a courtyard table with watermelon juice as we completed the registration process, and then were shown to our spacious room. The rooms reflect local custom and decor—comfortable and clean, but not international in style. Uyghur families often use roof gardens for evening air, and the Vines has roof patios available to guests. Most notable about the Silk Road Lodges, though, are the communicative and engaging young hosts, Askhar and Mukaram Samat. Askhar’s English is very good, and he’s eager to use it to connect with guests—to help them understand Uyghur culture, find guides, taxis or drivers to see the sights, solve whatever problems may arise, or just to chat. Mukaram supervises the kitchen, which supplies a breakfast buffet, and their young daughter contributes to the comfortable family scene. We spent a nice evening with fellow guests and the Samats up in the roof garden. Altogether the Silk Road Lodges offer a memorable introduction to Xinjiang. (For sightseeing, we especially recommend our driver Tahir, who was knowledgeable and easy to talk to.)

Thank you for your review.

We are glad you enjoyed your stay at The Vines and recognise our wish to provide something different from the traditional Chinese hotel.

We are very fortunate to have Askar and Mukaram running The Vines and will pass on your comments to them.

This place is a gem. We stayed here with our three kids during a family trip through Xinjiang and highly recommend it. It is set in a beautiful vineyard in a attractive Silk Road architectural building with an open courtyard. It is managed by a warm and lovely young couple who took great care of us and set us up with a fantastic 2 day itinerary and helped us organize a driver to take us around.

We arrived very early the first morning on the train up from Kashgar. Even though we were too early to get into our rooms, they welcomed us with a delicious breakfast and coffee. Within minutes they had found us a driver with a large car to take us off on our excursion.

There are lots of places to visit in this culturally and historically rich region-- our favorites were the Turpan museum, the irrigation water works, both Old ruins cities of Jiaohe and Qocho and the grape valley, where you can spend a few hours in the cool river valley and have a nice lunch or dinner at the cluster of food stalls at the end of the main road.

The kids loved staying at the lodge. They played outside in the vineyards with the hotel Labrador puppy, chocolate, until sunset, which is after 10 pm in July.

While the hotel only has a few rooms at present, they are nearly finished with an expansion building that will add some 15 rooms.

We returned to the Lodge after 4 years. We had to introduce this very special place to the group of friends who were travelling with us on the Silk Road.
Askar and Mukaram run the place and go out of their way to make their guests feel special. An engaging true polyglot Askar understands the needs and expectations of his guests who come irrespective of heir cultural background.
Try the local wine as a sundowner on the terrasse overlooking the vineyard with the flaming mountains in the background and a dinner under the pergola right in the midst of the vineyard. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. More are being built in new extension to cope with the well deserved success of the place.
We are confident the lodge will retain this unique atmosphere which set it aside from the many hotels along the silk road .

Silk Road Lodges is a wonderful place to stay if you're visiting Turpan. Our only problem was the hotel was being renovated and during the process, the restaurant is closed. It's only a short taxi ride to town, but I was looking forward to relaxing and enjoying a nice roof top meal with a view of the City after returning from a long day of touring. This did not happen.

The hotel manager, Askar, speaks fluent English and he goes out of his way to be hospitable and friendly.

The cleanliness of the rooms might be improved womewhat, but this may be due to the ongoing renovation. New carpets are definitely in order for the room we stayed in.

Room Tip: As soon as they are ready, book one of the new rooms in the hotel.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay overall.

The construction is almost now complete, and in the interim there is an excellent associated (related) small local restaurant right by the entrance to the hotel and this restaurant will deliver meals to the Lodge (roof top) if requested.

We note you point about cleanliness and will make extra efforts in that area as a result.

The current rooms are due for refurbishment as soon as the new rooms in the new building are available for occupation.

We apologise for any inconvenience you may have encountered.

Good hotel in Turpan.
The rooms are very comfortable. Globally, the decoration is lacking a bit of "bon goût" but really, I think it is an excellent choice in Turpan. But far from the center of the city, it is in a small village nearby, in the middle of vineyards.
The people are super nice and helpful.
Only negative point: they are building an extension of the hotel just nearby, which creates a bit of noise. This can be a bit disturbing especially early morning :-)
The is a terrace on the roof, and staying there at sunset or later is very nice.
Good breakfast, with cereals, yogourt, tea, fruits, scrambled eggs ...
I would recommend !

Thanks for your review, it is appreciated.

As of end May the construction is completed. This leaves fit out and furniture to do which hopefully will be less intrusive.
