This is probably the best hotel in Makarska. We stayed in a beautiful suite, the staff were lovely and quite helpful. Great lovation right by the beach and only 5/10 minutes stroll to the harbour. Could not recommend this place enough. I highly recommend it. **If drivinf there are limited spaces in their car park so reserve your spot well in advance.

From the moment we arrived we were welcomed like long lost friends even though it was our first, but not our last, stay.
The hotel itself was probably the cleanest hotel we've ever stayed in and this includes some of the finest in the world.
Without exception the staff went beyond the call of duty to make sure we were happy. Just a couple of examples.
We like to read on our balcony in the afternoon but it got very hot. One word to Svetlana on the front desk and an umbrella magically appeared.
The plastic chairs on our balcony got quite uncomfortable after a while of reading. Another word to Svetlana and we were offered chairs from the restaurant, even being asked if we'd prefer with or without arms.
The food was great and very fairly priced and you could get a good dinner for two including two huge glasses of, very good, house wine for around £24.
The hotel itself is perfectly situated a few yards from the sea which the restaurant overlooks.
I could go on about how happy we were with our stay but it'd probably get boring, however I would like to finally point out that the hotel was completely full and the staff very busy so it was even more satisfying that they managed to be so attentive.
We'll definitely be back.

Room Tip: Get a seafront room, the higher the better for the view.

The best hotel ever, lying right at the beach great location.Very quiet outside at night.Car parking in the underground garage. Very clean everywhere. Staff is very friendly and welcoming. The receptionist Svjetlana was very helpful. Got a room in third floor with sea view (302) couldn't been better. Very good breakfast , they makes omelet and fried eggs if you ask for it. Had dinner at the restaurant every night because the food was excellent and the service from Davor was great, he saved my bottle of rose-wine to the next night. Everything was just perfect, would definitely stay here again later, loved it all.

The short version… perfect in so many ways!
And the slightly longer, more informative account… this hotel comes with recommendation after recommendation, which we can only reinforce. Our positive impressions began in advance of our arrival after speaking with Ana whose helpful advice and friendly nature gave us a great feeling in anticipation of our upcoming visit.
Arriving in our hire car shortly after midnight Nenad the overnight receptionist dealt with us so pleasantly, sorting the parking and giving us very useful information about the locale, Makarska and the mountains too.
Arriving in our room, it was a lovely touch that staff had provided us a plate of cold meats, cheeses and a drink as a welcome on our late arrival.
The hotel itself was ideal for us. Only 22 rooms, it is in excellent condition, ideally set out. It offers safe and secure underground parking with personalized bays during your stay (payable at €7 [£5] per day) with a lift to all floors. Our room had a seaview, which was beautiful to wake to each morning. I can’t comment on the views to the rear of the hotel overlooking the mountains other than to say the one couple we spoke to who looked out this way said they were happy with their aspect. Rooms are kept lovely and clean by attentive staff. Bedrooms are very nice, with modern decor, well sized for a holiday duration and the bathrooms large and well set out, with large shower cubicle and hot powerful shower (no bath).
Breakfast is superb; it is heaven to enjoy in the morning sun overlooking the beach from the restaurant terrace as the squirrels run overhead. There is a good choice of hot and cold options: cereals, fruit, yoghurt, sausage, bacon, boiled eggs, cold meats, cheeses, small pastries and for anything that isn’t there like fried or poached eggs, it is no problem to simply ask any of the superb and friendly waiters to fix you up. To each by name… Mario, Davor, Kresimir (thank you again for the gift of BiH coins) and Sandro we are so grateful to you all for helping make our stay so memorable.
The hotel is located a stones throw from the beach in a relatively quieter area of Makarska, no more than 15 minutes walk from the lovely harbor & the Old Town Square with hotels and numerous choice of restaurants on your way. We found however that turning right out of the hotel offered what we found to be our preferred restaurants with very tasty food, plenty of choice at very reasonable cost. Many is the night we sat side by side enjoying a drink whilst waiting for our meal and watching the sun set (for sunset aficionados it’s maybe worth pointing out that this doesn’t occur out in the bay over Brac which without thinking too much about I simply assumed it would, imagining it to be due west. It actually sets looking back up towards Split, inland of the beach and practically out of sight - shame)! The Maritimo as a restaurant itself offers gorgeous food and an excellent choice - well worth "staying in for".
The sea is wonderfully clear and the colours it reflects, beautiful. The beaches, as in the whole of Croatia are shingle and not sand and you are well advised to wear “swim shoes” for protection not only from the rocks but from sea urchins too. Don’t worry if you don’t bring these with you everywhere sells them here (~£6).
For those with hire cars wishing to explore Croatia, Makarska is very well situated. Most everywhere is accessible either from the scenic D8 coastal route or the faster more central A1 motorway (a toll route - which offers lovely views of the mountainous interior). It depends on the individual how far you wish to drive but from here over the fortnight we very comfortably managed to visit Skradinski Buk – gorgeous, Trogir – beautifully quaint, Dubrovnik – amazing, Mostar (stopping on the way at picturesque Pocitjel!) – lovely, Plitvice Lakes (we stayed there overnight in the Plitvice Hotel) – truly beyond belief, Zadar on the way back from Plitvice to watch the sunset and listen to the sea organ – very enjoyable & up into Biokovo NP to watch the sunset. Plus Split on the way back to the airport – which unfortunately for us we only found to be so so! This still left us more than enough days to forget the car, laze on the beach and enjoy things in the local vicinity.
Which brings me to say to Svjetlana and Tanja we really cannot thank you enough for all the help and advice you gave us throughout, and the “homework” you so kindly provided too to ensure we got the most from our visit to Croatia. For your friendliness and the way you came into our lives for our all too brief stay we were very sad to leave.
To ALL the staff at the Maritimo - a really heartfelt and enormous thank you.
To anyone contemplating booking – don’t hesitate! We hope, and we are sure you will enjoy it every bit as much as we did.

PS – the air conditioning is a breeze to operate – it just doesn’t work if the balcony door is open! ;-)

Room Tip: Seaview on 2nd 3rd floor

What I want from a hotel is to be made to feel welcome, have a clean room and bathroom, friendly staff and good service. This hotel does it all. The room was very modern, exceptionally clean, air conditioned with TV. Nice view of the garden ( I was too mean to pay for a sea view) and in a perfect position overlooking the beach and within 2 mins walk of the better restaurants in Makarska. The old town is only a 10 min stroll away. Garage underneath if you need to park a car. Nice terrace overlooking the beach. Good buffet breakfast and very well priced. You will not be disappointed if you find yourself here.
