Apples is like Branden's restaurant it has been there along time with a nice view of the Mekong river, and at one time your only choice for foreign food , but is now obsolete. It is run down, with poor staff and service, not to mention poor quality of food and value for what you get, plus it opens for breakfast very late 9:00am. It has all went down hill. Actually they have been trying to sell it for along time losing money every month same as Branden's. It does have a nice location though.
I wish I could have given it a better review, but I have to be honest, and reliable to the readers of this site.

But i had to leave that day. the breakfast was excellent, and reasonably priced.
Very good coffee included.
Beef Steak Hache was on the menu, and other delicacies I would like to have tried.
I think the place is french, or has a french influence.

Apples is mainly a beer bar with a view. She is one of the nicest persons you can meet. But for great food, she too is cutting the same corners as most tourist restaurants anywhere in the world. Someone writes "great selection of food" and that is always a warning to me. When a restaurant is sparsely occupied, I'm thinking freezer and microwave.. Not the kind of food I'd go for in Nong Khai where you kan buy amazing fresh produce at three separate markets. But if you want a schnitzel or a goulash or take a chance on a western style sausage or meatball. You just need to understand how a kitchen works. And compare that to how the local restaurants work, where you see the food being prepared from scratch with fresh ingredients often at a fraction of the price.

Had a few meals on the basis of try try again. Each time had undercooked meals served to me, the price is good the meal size is great but unfortunately the meals are not quite cooked through. Staff speak English good communication but the two young ladies are always playing on the phone and it's hard to get there attention even to pay the bill. The middle aged woman was quite attentive tho but I don't rate this place well at all. I won't be returning.

Nice waiters... Eventhough a bit too young and unexperienced, but nice and quite professional. Too bad sooooooo many old men sitting there... And not even having fun. Espresso was not good.
