The loss of life and suffering that forms the background to this park is horrendous. The park is a fine memorial to those who lost their lives and well worth a visit to learn about and reflect on the past. There is an excellent small museum which presents what happened. Congratulations to all those who have created and maintained this important memorial.

Visited with my wife as part of a tour group A quiet, thought proving, memorial to the several thousand allied soldiers who were sent on a death march by the Japanese towards the end of the second world war.

There is a path to follow about a half mile long through quiet woodland, and a small building with information to view.

Very reflective and interesting.

Set in a landscaped garden this memorial park commemorates the Australian and British prisoners of war who were held by the Japanese between 1942-1945.
The gallery has many photos and some letters written by the POWs. Poignant , sad and shows the pain suffered during that time. Old equipment such as an excavator, boiler and alternator are creatively displayed. A good place to visit ..... lest we forget.

The Memorial Park is a well laid out tribute to a part of Australia's history on foreign shores. A must do in Sandakan. Might be worth a Google search to read up on the facts before visiting. A moving tribute to those who fought to protect our freedom.

A tasteful and peaceful memorial park despite it being the very same venue where the POW camp was located. The exhibition displays promoted an understanding of the inflictions suffered however with pathos. It is always a worthy effort to commit to . Gaining insight and understanding the detriments of the action and decisions of Man on their own kind must be borne if possible by all but especially for the youth of tomorrow so that the horrors of WAR is kept to the minimal.
Lest we not forget.
