Relaxed and comfortable, picturesque setting, superb personalized service, and great variety of vegetarian food! Great resort for larger groups as well!

We were a large group (~20 people - vegetarians, vegans, young kids and generally demanding of quality food and service) and spent four days of family vacation time at Anantara Kalutara in December 2017. We had an extremely pleasant experience right from the time we started planning the trip with Zinthiya – who we thought was responsible for reservations – but helped us literally plan our entire vacation to ensure we were well looked after and spoilt with personalised menus and service! And when we reached the resort, Faizal was superb with his attention to detail and ensuring the promised service was delivered.

The resort itself is new, pictures will tell you its setting with water on three sides (lagoon and beach) make it a unique property in Sri Lanka and about 1.5 hours drive from Colombo Airport. While the beach waters were rough and hence not very inviting for a dip, the facilities at the resort make up for it. You can spend the entire day lazing around the pools, coffee shop, bar, or the indoor play area.

We had heard a lot about lack of quality vegetarian food in Sri Lanka. To our surprise, we were impressed by the variety and quality of vegetarian food that we were offered – authentic Italian cuisine (I even requested for the recipe of the soup, which chef Upul was very kind to share!); traditional Indian food – including north Indian, south Indian, and Indian Chinese!!; and a wide variety of local Sri Lankan food. Hoppers were a great breakfast feast – do request to try them with butter, salt and pepper!

We cannot thank Chef Prabhash and Sous Chef Upul enough for their hospitality – catering to our tastes, preferences, and making last minute changes to our menu on request. Also, a special mention for pastry chef Soufiane for the heavenly pastries and a large dessert spread (with fresh pistachios, raspberries, strawberries, coconut, carrot, hazelnuts, etc) to ensure we gain a few kilos before leaving the resort! Anton – the F&B manager and his team including Malith were super kind and patient and ensured we were well looked after at every meal.

Overall, it’s a place for a family to chill, eat some great food, enjoy great Sri Lankan service, and go back feeling the need to come back again!

An all-too-short two night stay at this luxury resort hotel.
The location, the hotel, the rooms, the food, beverages and hospitality (and above-all - the staff), made this a very special family stop-over as part of our Sri Lankan grand tour.
Thank you again; hopefully we will get a chance to return some time.

We spent a week over Christmas at the hotel and had a wonderful time. We couldn't find fault with anything. The staff were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent, the Christmas Eve buffet offered pretty much everything you could possibly think of! Our room was great with the most comfortable bed. We were on the lagoon side so further from reception and the pool area but that meant it was quiet and peaceful. Overall a great experience so many thanks to Giles and his team.
