We had a couple of issues with Mar e Iguana. First, the hostel has a cockroach problem. We found several during our one night (shorter than planned) stay. Second, the salty air and water is taking it's toll on some of the doors. Our knob popped out of it's place. Third, after paying for a towel, we discovered we were given one with blood stains on it. And last, after coming in a bit later at night (standard for Bocas), a friend found someone in her bed and was forced to sleep outside.

Stayed here a couple of nights and the hostel is quite cozy and close to the beach. But to get to one of the nicer beaches you still need to travel a bit so there is not really a point in staying in this hostel. There should be plenty of good options in town. Staff are super friendly though and the AC in the dorm was appreciated.

The toilet and shower was not great but the sun deck with hammocks was nice

This hostel is 15 minutes on foot away from the town-center. Some restaurants and a super-market are close by. The place is clean and the bar/restaurant is a cool place to hang around. The staff is very nice and forthcoming. The dorm is small but has enough space for your luggage and as a/c! Wifi is fast and
But, on Friday and Saturday-night the place next door is very noisy till late (earplugs). The only sink for people in the dorm is outside. If it rains your brushing your teeth in the rain.

the vibe in this hostel is very nice, lots of common space in a nice garden,, rooms were bit small but very clean and with everything I need..
the bar is very cheap specially in happy hours, is easy to meet other travellers here...
they offer very good boat tours...
I hope to be back soon....

I was really looking forward to this stay but was rather disappointed. There is a great two-story terrace where yoga is sometimes held in the mornings, with several hammocks and wifi accesible. The staff were all very nice and helpful as well.
However, the reservation I had made via email earlier in the spring was lost somewhere along the line. Because it was low season, there was plenty of room in the dorm for me so it was not a problem, but could have been if it was busy. I ended up getting a bed with bed bugs, and woke up with over 100 bites over my body. It was suggested that they might have been mosquito bites, but I did a lot of research afterward about the differences and it was definitely bed bugs. The staff was apologetic and helpful, but I slept in the hammock my second night to avoid the problem again. The website was a bit misleading with air-conditioning that I was unable to get working in the dorm, and private bathrooms. There was only one toilet for women for the six dorm beds and other rooms without private bathrooms. Again this wasn't an issue due to it being low season, but I can imagine it being frustrating if it was busier. Showers were cold, but it was humid and not advertised that they had hot water, so I can't complain about that!

The beach across the street is about a minute walk, which was very nice, but it wasn't really a beach on which you would want to throw down a towel and soak up the sun. This would be a great place for people who love the bar scene, but be warned that the bar next door plays loud music pretty late into the night. Not the place to go if you want to get to bed early - bring ear plugs!
