“Surprise temple in a difficult location”

Sri Kurungaleeswarar Temple
Reviewed 30 March 2018

This is Lord Siva temple and it is located in the residential areas of Koyambedu. Hence for first timers, this will be slightly difficult to locate. Many shops are located outside, good parking space available. A Perumal temple also is located adjacent to this temple. This is a hidden gift for devotees. Worth visiting.

This is my favorite temple and just like Kalahasti, this is a nice temple for Lord Shiva devotees. But as you enter the mandapam is not clean.

If you visit this temple, you can almost see all the gods. Its surrounded by - Opp Lord Ganesha temple, a hanuman temple as you enter and on the other side is the Perumal - Venkateswara temple.

There is a temple cow with shelter inside the temple.

Kurungaleeswarar temple is the one of the best places to spend your evening in Chennai. Located near the Koyambedu Metro station, this temple is one of the oldest temples in this region. It is believed that Kusa, the son of Rama, visited this temple. What was once the valmiki ashram is now a perumal shrine. This shiva temple architecture is certainly a treat to watch. Regular meditation sessions happen on Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. You can expect a good spiritual experience in this temple.
