This 700-plus-roomed city-centre is extremely well-equipped, with luxurious rooms with quality beds clever room-design and charming staff. All modern Malaysian hotels operate at a standard of luxury normally only ought at higher cost than the vast majority of western can afford or justify, but here is such comfort at such value, I have to laud it.
Unusually for us, we ate in-hotel, because it was so good and so fairly-priced. The historic Portuguese fort and Dutch graves are within 5 minutes' walk and the sea, 20 minutes away. Interestingly, the entire seafront of Malacca has been reclaimed over the past few years and new malls, businesses and hotels cover the former part of the Thraits of Malacca. Warning: note where you leave your car - there are identical, 2-acre floors, which take some covering od foot when your realise you cannot find your wheels. Courteous and cheerful Hatten staff saved the day for us, by sending a hunter on a moped, armed only with our registration number - and we got our own car back - delighted! Would go again of course, but perhaps guard against peak visitor time, in view of some other reviewers who found it over-busy. We were well off-peak. Free (fast) wifi, parking and a good pool.
