At first I was a little shocked at the lobby of this 1920's styled property. However, once we got into our room, I was transformed. Spa services were great, as was the breakfast. An added plus, they take their guests on a free morning and afternoon walking tour of Malacca, and our hostess was wonderful. Thanks for a great stay!

We stayed in the Majestic for three nights. The hotel facilities and the room showed that this had been a serious hotel but the current incarnation has lost a lot of its gloss. We liked the excellent breakfast and the good wifi. Less good was the lack of a proper evening restaurant an over priced bar and the bizarre arrangement of the bathroom/ bedroom which are separated by sliding panels rather than a wall.
The location does the place no favours as it is surrounded by a building site and semi derelict buildings.
Malacca itself is run down and a one day visit would be enough.

Now this is a little gem, tucked between the skyscraper hotels it exhudes colonial atmosphere, a wonderful experience .
Just as we have our National Trust stately homes in England so this is like living in one for the duration of your stay. The decor is fabulous, the furniture wonderful, the rooms impeccable, the whole place is strikingly clean, efficient and such lovely lovely staff and service.
We were warned about it being noisy but asked for a quiet room which serves us very well for our four day stay. We always bring earplugs anyway so any traffic noise was dampened and as it was low season and not a weekend we were not duly bothered by any neighbouring guests.
The staff are an absolute joy to behold, we were greeted warmly and shown to our room where we were presented with the traditional lychee tea which comes in a special basket to keep it warm. Lovely. Staff are dressed immaculately in whites and traditional kebaya and sarong for the girls.
The food is really delicious, there is a good choice of breakfast foods, my husband had two portions of the delightful Chennai dhall every morning, I chose the eggs n beef bacon, tasty fresh juices, fruits, porridge ( both congee and oats),staff bring you whatever you wish and always with a most pleasant smile .I like my tea with lemon and ginger and honey and this was readily provided no problem .
Not only are the surrounds fabulous but it wouldn't be as fine without the helpful and endearing staff.
Our great thanks to those whose names we remember, our apologies to those whose names our old memory does not recall in afraid, to the wonderful chef Richard,(Sieng Tay)who we will contact, wobbly Bob who is a true barman and also helpful, Rajal who my husband called Eric, such a cutey , so gentle but strong, the wonderful Leung, so helpful with sorting my wifi, the electrician who sorted our fan and did the extra by checking the AC,Penii so helpful, Jini, Natasha, the Balinese girl, the Burmese girl, Hani,Sharif, Jacqueline, and lovely Hadi with whom we both had a son upon our leaving, there are many others who we can visualise but whose names we cannot recall. Everyone a star !!! Terimakasi so much for your kindness, attention and know that we will never forget you, we wish we live nearer so we could see you soon . thankyou for a memorable stay, Barbara and Mr Dennis xxx we will email you when we return home..
Food is fantastic, good wines, great central location for visiting the sights, easy walking distance, do take a hat as there isn't a lot of shelter on Jonker Walk.

Our room was enchanting, exactly as shown on the website. It was large and spacious with an integral bathroom, all in the colonial style throughout. However, there was little lounge space downstairs, and it was not comfortable at all. Facilities in the lounge were sadly lacking for such a hotel. Reception staff barely looked up when we passed. The barman was good when he actually appeared. Breakfast was average. Overall we were very disappointed as we had been looking forward to our stay there.

We have recently returned from our third visit to this wonderful and unique hotel which, Is always, the highlight of our trip to Malaysia.
We arrived this time after a long journey from 'Tangong Jara Resort on the east coast but the welcome we received from everyone at the Majestic was so wonderful that it truly felt we had come home.
It is hard to improve on perfection but the staff here try to do just that. This is due in part to the exacting standards of the YTL group, but more importantly to the hands on approach of their superb general manager Mr Ben Quah who leads his staff by example and in turn is regarded by them all with respect and affection. You get a strong feeling that at every level, great pride is taken in their work. It was noticed that my husband particularly liked the little biscuits that are in jars in the lobby and when we got back to our room one evening we discovered that a dish of them had been placed there. It is these little personal touches that make the Majestic so special.
This gracious hotel is extremely well maintained and gleams with cleanliness. The rooms are lovely, spacious and comfortable with everything working to perfection. The dining room is elegant and the food beautiful. A visit to the hotel Spa is a truly memorable experience and the massages better than I have had anywhere in the world.
True, it is not in the centre of Malacca, but a very pleasant stroll along the river or a short taxi or trishaw ride will take you to the centre of things. How wonderful it then is, after a day in this hot, busy but utterly magical place, to return to the cool oasis of the Majestic lobby and the big smiles and 'Welcome back' calls from all the staff.
So many superlatives I know but there really are no negatives.
The Majestic is, quite simply, 'The Very Best'
