During our trip to Fiji we stayed at Liku Liku for 4 days before heading back to Denarau. Let me just say, if you are planning a trip to Fiji, you HAVE TO go to the outer islands otherwise you are truly missing out. The hotel and its staff could not be better. Everyone is so friendly. From the time you get off the boat and arrive on Malolo Island, it is magic. We were greeted by staff playing guitar and singing. "BULA!" they yelled as we disembarked. They immediately placed necklaces around our necks (to keep as a souvenir) and walked us to the bar for a complimentary passionfruit iced tea with crushes mint - just the think we needed after the 2 hour boat ride from Denarau. Next, they showed us immediately to the restaurant for lunch. Let me tell you, all lunch and dinner meals are 4 course with an amuse bouche, starter, main and dessert. The presentation cannot be faulted and the food was delicious. One night I had a pretty tough piece of beef but other than that it was amazing. By the end though we were pretty stuffed. One thing to note - the breakfasts were a bit lack luster and the chef probably needs some extra training on how to cook eggs. The menu for that meal did not change (all other did daily) and it is hard to imagine that we could have done the breakfast options there for a full week.
The accomodations were amazing! We considered booking an over water bure but went with the Deluxe Beachfront rooms. This was totally the right decision. First of all, the over water bures are pretty far away from the main parts of the resort and as Fiji is known for fluctuating tides, they are not always over water. That said, I have heard people complain about those who stayed in them and to that I say, do your research before or get over it. This place is pretty close to perfect and you will not do better in Fiji.
The Deluxe Beachfront truly is beachfront and you can hear the waves as you go to sleep. We also had a cushioned day bed and a private plunge pool out on our deck which was amazing. When we wanted to snorkel (which is the best there as Liku Liku Lagoon is a marine reserve) you just jump off the dock where you arrived. They give each couple a bag with snorkel gear for the time they are there which is nice so you do not have to keep getting it. The gear is also pretty high quality. There are also plenty of other water sports you can try. The snorkeling was amazing - we saw octopus, sting rays, clownfish, parrotfish, tons of blue starfish - the list goes on. The water is so clear and blue you can see everything and it is literally right on your doorstep!
Another nice touch was personal men and women's sinks, the outdoor and indoor showers in the room and fresh baked cookies replaced each day! YUM!
If you go to Liku Liku you will not be disappointed and if you are, you simply will not be happy anywhere. Perfection! We WILL be coming back.
