The Renaissance Putuo as noted in other reviews is not located in the center of Shanghai, but it is directly across the street from the #7 subway line (Exit #3). Taxis are very inexpensive for those who don't want to use the subway. The rooms are of good size with a typical layout in Renaissance hotels. Very comfortable bed, roomy bathrooms with separate shower and deep soaking tub. The room has a nice large safe, robes , mini-fridge & A/V set up for connecting your computer or DVD player to the large flat screen. Breakfast buffet is excellent as is the room service menu. Didn't try the Chinese restaurant or the seafood buffet. The service is excellent and the staff is very willing to assist your every need. The only drawback is the location. Those who prefer to exit their hotel and be right in the middle of the town should probably book a place closer to the center of Shanghai at a cost increase of maybe 50% for a similar class hotel. There are plenty of convenience stores located 1 block in any direction to buy snacks & beverages.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are nice & roomy.

Stayed at the Renaissance for 2 nights as part of a tour. Very nice place! Beautiful lobby and bar area. Rooms are spacious and well appointed - they provide robes, slippers, and even umbrellas. Beds were wonderful!! Fitness center is large with lots to choose from. Extra outlet by a second mirror which I always appreciate for drying my hair to free up the bathroom. Breakfast was excellent, even the Eastern choices were good.

The two drawbacks: the location and the bathroom. Went exploring the surrounding area one night, but saw nothing interesting. It's not very close to any attractions either. Although it looks kind of cool at first, the bathroom has no real walls separating it from the rest of the room. Instead, there are 2 sliding wooden panels that meet at a right angle. You don't really feel like you've got much privacy in there and you can hear everything going on. Shower was nice - plenty of pressure an hot water. But be carful that the shower wand isn't pointed towards the door when you turn it on. The water comes out horizontally and as I've already said, with plenty of pressure. I found this out the hard way and got a full frontal of cold water that I had to eventually fight through to adjust the nozzle.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and I would come here again.

My husband and I stayed 4 days in this hotel and it was fabulous, we had the opportunity to get a good price and stayed in a suite which was amazing, the room and the bathroom were spacious, comfortable, modern and extremely clean, the bathroom also had two sink and toilet separated by a door.

The breakfast is very good, varied and high quality's, offers both Western and Asian food. I also recommend the chinese restaurant New Dynasty located on the first floor, the food was great, outstanding service and lower prices in comparisons of other restaurants of the same level outside the hotel.

The hotel isn't close from the attractions and the area is not pretty, but it has a metro station nearby which is easy to use because the names are in both Chinese and English, is quite modern and the cost of one way trip is between 6-9 yuan depending on destination.

The hotel's concierge service is very helpful, and believe me that in China it is highly appreciated. One piece of advise: if you want to go to Hangzhou, which is so beautiful with the West Lake, you have two ways, first you can hire a tour with the concierge, however I encourage you to do some internet research and check other prices, because we found it quite expensive but we had no time to find another one, the other way to go is to ask the concierge to buy the train tickets (that takes 1 hour) which is much more faster and economical than in tour (2.5 hours), keep in mind that you should requested it at least one day in advance.

For us the stay at this hotel was wonderful, with clean and modern facilities, outstanding service and great food, we recommend it 100%.

Only drawback is not much going on in the lounge at night compared to other hotels in china, but whatever. Rooms were amazing and staff and food was great.
