I booked this place in March 2017 as I had been impressed when I visited 2 years ago; (my parents grand parents lived here before liberation). There were welcomed improvements in its hardware, as well soft wares. Guest service was typical of the state run institute before; but this time attitude had changed. Most noticable in the buffet breakfast; where local special little eats were explained by chefs manning the 4 to 5 stations. Waiter/waitresses were dressed in old workers outfit, and service was, overall prompt. Rooms were cleaned with an arte deco theme. Dont forget to visit the Noble house restaurant within the complex for cusine noveou Shanghai; as well as the on site restaurant (closes quite early).

The Anting Villa Hotel is located in the former French concession, 2 mn away from the subway station on Line 1.The area is very quiet, not what you would expect in Shanghai and with tree lined streets. The rooms are quite big and clean. The personnel is kind and helpful despite just a few speaking good English. The breakfast has a large choice western & Chinese food with omelettes made to order. We tried the new boutique restaurant centre at the end of Anting Road, near the subway which was opening fully the following week which offered many styles of food and a tasty Pizza made a welcome snack.

The Anting Villa Hotel is a very Chinese hotel but Westerners may enjoy it for several reasons. The location is great in the former French concession, 2 mn away from the subway station on Line 1 and less than 5 minutes aways from Zapata's and Sasha's.The area is very quiet. The rooms are quite big and clean. The personnel is kind and helpful despite just a few speaks good English. The breakfast may comply with the expectations of the Western guests with a large choice. The price is very competitive according to Shanghai.
There is a very good restaurant in this hotel.

Room Tip: There is a little house with a few rooms that is really enjoyable.

We were pleasantly surprised at this hotel, which was great value for money. Super comfy beds, quiet, clean, great breakfast included. Hotel very close to subway Henshen road on line 1, making it very easy to explore Shanghai. And the area in French concession is very nice, walking distance to shopping malls and many small shops, cafés and restaurants in surrounding streets. Recommended!
