“Heat on a rainy day”
Review of Ruijin Cajun

Ruijin Cajun
Ranked #1,068 of 17,426 Restaurants in Shanghai
Price range: US$2 - US$18
Description: Ruijin Cajun is the only restaurant in Shanghai (and maybe in all of China) dedicated to serving authentic Cajun and Creole comfort food. The menu is comprised entirely of the head chef's family recipes. The bar serves accurate reproductions of classic New Orleans cocktails such as the Hurricane and Hand Grenade. Food portions and drink pours are generous, and the prices are quite reasonable.

This was an awesome southern flavor filled meal. The homemade Tabasco left a lingering heat for me, very tasty. The IPA selection was an oasis I haven't seen since we moved to Shanghai! At least 4 very good options I would envy in the USA. The meal was great although my eggplant muffuletta could be warmer. The swamp fries are worth the upgrade! Definitely coming back.

If you miss New Orleans as much as I do, you've come to the right place. Definitely a nice place to go if you need a break from China. This place has it all. Gumbo, etoufee, shrimp po'boys, and even hand grenades. They also have a "bypass burger" that comes between two grilled cheese sandwiches instead of a bun! Add the fact that there's the classic brass band music playing over the speakers and you can't beat it. Food was great. They make their andouille sausage in house and it tastes amazing. I had the swamp dog, which is a sausage sandwich covered in etoufee. I've also had the po boys. Just like the other reviews say, the owners are great people. We stayed and laughed there until a little after midnight. Good times...

This place tops it off for southern cooking. The two owners, Matt and Nate, are top shelf for supplying a comfortable, casual atmosphere. I was fortunate enough to visit a few times and tried a few dishes and all were great. I would definitely recommend this place to others that love eating comfort food.

This place maybe a tad small but it packs a lot of punch. The owner of the place is friendly and tries to give you a free shot. Ok maybe just force it down your throat but being an expat in Shanghai this place reminds me of the local bar with great food. Great food! Great food! You have to go! Now!
