“Rainy game, great dinner”

Since we didn’t want to sit in the rain at the football game we opted to leave and find some dinner. The last time my wife and I visited here was back in college in the late 90’s. It’s still the same great food and service. Our meals consisted of Ribeye, whole catfish and 2 large shrimp dinners. Sides were steak fries or baked potato and side salad. With the shrimp dinners the small comes with 12 pieces but be forewarned, they are more popcorn size so we upped the meals to the large portion. The steak was cooked to perfection. The sauce it comes out in makes the steak even better. My wife enjoyed the catfish. When you are seated you get a bowl of beans and a plate of hush puppies. Add that to your meal and there is plenty of food. Everybody enjoyed their meals. Service was great.

One of our daughters attends school at Roy University, so we find ourselves in Troy several times a year, and have tried multiple times to visit Mossy Grove, and failed every time as they are closed Sunday and Monday. Well, third time's the charm they say, so when we knew we'd be in town on a Saturday night when there was no Football game we made our plans and headed to Mossy Grove. As a fan of anything historic I was always intrigued by the history of the building, and on that score it hits the mark quite squarely. The quaint old school hits the mark as a unique restaurant, and the wall decor is what you might think of at a Cracker Barrel, but better done, and more personal. We had to wait a few minutes to be seated, in part because they're very busy, and i part because they were rearranging tables for a large birthday party. We were seated and ordered, I going with the Fried Chicken, and the missus with the Fried Crab Claws. The vast majority of the menu is Fried Food, but it's country, and they fry right. The Fried Chicken, which was boneless tenders, were done perfectly, not overly breaded, and not dried out, easily among the best chicken tenders I have ever eaten. The wife was surprised when her Fried Crab Claws arrived, not at all what she expected, but she raved about them none the less, and said she would return for them any day. All meals come with a basket of Hush Puppies; a Bowl of Northern Beans; and Cowl Slaw or Salad, and if they'd let you, you could make a meal of that. The entrees are also accompanied by sides, Baked Potato, Fries, various Veggies. It was all delightful. While we waited for coffee and desert, the large Birthday Party was singing Happy Birthday and the Staff insisted the whole room join in, which we gladly did. All in all, our visit to Mossy Grove, much delayed over the years, was worth the wait, and will hopefully be repeated as often as opportunity allows. Mossy Grove reminds us of how pleasant it is to escape the rat race and return to a simpler time, centered on good food and good company.

We live about 30 minutes away, and eat here as often as we can. The food is always delicious! Love, love, love the northern beans, pickle relish and hush puppies that they bring to the table as soon as you sit. Put a spoon of the relish on your beans, and yum yum yum!!! I could make a meal off of that. Friendly staff and great food!! Love how they have converted an old school building and the antiques that are everywhere. Definitely a place you need to try!

Driving up I was so intrigued by both the building itself and the trees with the mossy oak around. Once inside there was so much character and things to look at-we loved it. Really likes the homemade hush puppies with sweet peppers. Had the combo plate with catfish, shrimp, and chicken fingers with coleslaw and baked potato-really enjoyed the meal. Finished off with mossy oaks dessert- better when you let it warm up a bit and dip in chocolate or caramel- give it a try.
