For our last evening in Costa Rica, we really weren’t expecting to find a fantastic dining experience in the bigger city, after our great meals throughout the country. However, we read about this place and wanted to give it a try. Our hotel manager didn’t know about it, and neither did the Driver (who asked US to use OUR Waze to direct him). We got there and knew we wouldn’t have a table for five because it’s super small - like 5 tables max- but we were quickly welcomed by Saul, the owner, and told if we sat at the counter, everything would be alright. What an understatement! What a treat for all of us! The counter overlooks the entire (small) kitchen area, an incredibly efficient use of small space, and it was truly an entertaining and educational dining experience. The two chefs spoke with us, explained what they were doing and preparing. Saul told us the story of his opening as a fish market and transitioning to restaurant by way of selling his delicious ceviche. He opened more tables and added other delicious items to the menu. All seafood with the exception of a pasta dish. The grilled octopus was beautiful, unique and delicious. Everybody enjoyed their food. The sea bass was a gorgeous dish and delicious. The ceviche and tartare were great. Even the pasta dish was delish. We loved everything about this experience! Charming! Loved the special drink - something with ginger ale, lemon and blackberry juice. Very sweet but delicious to sip on. Also, Kevin and Saul make gorgeous and delicious desserts. Don’t miss this opportunity, especially as you’re ending your visit to Costa Rica. So worthwhile!
