Try to get a room over looking the river and you will be delighted, rooms looking inland were missing out on the wonderful views of crocs basking on the river bank. There were enormous Iguanas lounging in the tree tops. The swimming pool and Jacuzzi were fabulous. Nice bar, good restaurant. Good stables and horse riding onsite. Staff put food out for the birds every morning at breakfast - and you see such a wonderful, colourful variety. Take your camera to breakfast!!!!

Room Tip: Make sure you have a room overlooking the river

Perhaps there is a different rating system in Costa Rica but this hotel was clearly not a four star. The staff were friendly and accommodating but the state of the hotel is in a state of disrepair. The grounds are not properly maintained either.

Pros: friendly staff.
Cons: at least thirty minutes from all of the attractions in the volcanic area, some rooms are in relatively bad shape, only one restaurant with average food (breakfast was mediocre at best), and the gym is at least ten years behind the times.

As I outlined above, the staff were friendly and even changed our rooms. That was the highlight.

This is such an amazing hotel and Resort. The food in the restaurant is delicious. The pool is really big and has two lanes in case you need to do some training. The customer service is exceptional and the rooms are pretty and clean.

We visited in the off season so it was very quite. The accommodation is spaciously set out overlooking gardens and the above the river. The room itself was spacious with air conditioning, a ceiling fan, TV, spacious shower, hairdryer, coffee maker (no kettle for tea). The towel folded and shaped like an elephant was a nice extra touch. There is a safe at a small extra charge. There was a little terrace and it was great just relaxing and watching the birds. On site there is a swimming pool and jacuzzi. The bare and restaurant area are also pleasant to frequent. But as with everything in Costa Rica this about the wildlife. The hotel also put out breakfast for the birds and many variety can be seen whilst you eat your own breakfast. There was a sloth on the grounds and some interesting plants together with a butterfly area. Very relaxing and pleasant stay.

We stayed in Tilijari in late August of this year (2017) during what is the rainy season in Costa Rica. The resort is located around 30 minutes outside of La Fortuna/Arenal and away from the tourist bustle of that area. There is an abundance of wildlife as other reviews remark, including a number of iguanas that lumber about the property. The butterfly garden is wonderful, and under visited. The pool and hot tub are both very nice, and the restaurant and bar are remarkable. Do not skip the fantastic breakfast with some of the most excellent jugos frescos you will find. It is a quiet setting, and you will enjoy walking the grounds with the numerous gardens to explore. Keep in mind, this resort is not necessarily within walking distance of any major tourist areas, but anything you need is a short drive away.
