The area is cloudy about 50% of the time, so you need a little luck to see the beautiful Arenal vulcano in the backyard. I stayed at the end of the path, in the building with several rooms. Rooms were good, clean and spacious, with a nice balcony. Quiet surroundings.

Arrived to a very long walk toour room from reception. Rooms were very clinical and quite old fashioned! The shower tap was broken of which we reported and presumed whilst we were out would be fixed or a replacement room found. When we arrived back and asked if fixed they said it had but infact nothing had changed so for 2 nights we had cold showers as there was no way of controlling the temperature as the tap was broken!
Breakfast was good and staff were ok but not overly friendly but we wereon a tour and this hotel had been booked on our behalf.
Probably wouldn't recommend although very close to Arenal volcano!

The hotel room looked promising at first glance – with a large bedroom and two double beds, and a large bathroom with a Jacuzzi bath. There are two swimming pools, but only one appeared to be in use - it had a very low water level. This was a shame as there was an amazing jungle fresco dome partially covering it.

There was a very long walk down to our hotel room, and we were not offered assistance with our luggage.

There were no hangers in the wardrobe, and the room was cold at night. No blankets had been provided. We asked for blankets – but did not receive any. Therefore, on the first night, I slept in my jumper. The next day, I asked reception for blankets again. None arrived. In the evening, I asked again, and they were then delivered within 10 minutes. In addition, when we returned from our travels on the second day, there were no fresh towels. I walked across to the laundry (just opposite the room). I could see the fresh towels, but was told “un momento”, so had to return to the room to wait for them to bring them to me.

The service was beyond any expectations especially considering the incredible value for money. Staff were friendly and extremely hospitable. Breakfast was delicious and although no wi-if in rooms, the level of service compensates. Wi fi available in reception/restaurant area - it's a great speedy internet service. We felt like we were leaving our family home on departure.

I stayed here last weekend with my partner, and we had a great time. We had done a bit of searching for accommodation online but not found much available in the area at a reasonable price, so we called in at Lava Tacotal by pure chance. We showed up late at night in the pouring rain with no reservation and were very happy with what we found! Good service, a nice spacious room at a good price, beautiful grounds, great breakfast and a nice location! If you don't need absolute luxury but want a pleasant, quiet place to stay, this is the place.
