My family (3 adults & 2 children) had a wonderful 2 weeks at The Westin Reserva Conchal. The staff always went over and above. Special mentions to Rachael in the buffet area who made a great effort to remember our morning drinks, (black tea with milk for my mum!) and Brayan who worked in the pool bar area, who was fantastic with our 2 children, (particularly our son, who was sad he didn’t see him to say goodbye on our last day!) Staff always said hello/hola/pura vida and were always asking to help if it looked like you needed it, (e.g. take a group photo or show us the baby owls).
The pool and surrounding area were great; huge and clean. There were always staff around clearing away old drinks, emptying bins and cleaning the toilets regularly. As a result, there was never a problem with wildlife bothering guests because of discarded food. The hotel grounds were spectacular, with an abundance of wildlife. We saw lots of: howler monkeys, coatis, racoons, lizards, owls, bats, iguanas, squirrels, crabs, butterflies, hummingbirds and other birds.
The food was first class, always tasty. We loved the buffet restaurant and the steak house/Caracola for both lunch & dinner. The special drinks offered every day were a nice touch too. Again, the staff were wonderful, always friendly and attentive.
The beach is stunning and we saw manta rays, lots of fish, sting rays and pelicans there. One slight grumble is that the water sports hire was only open from the morning until 3.30pm, to add to this the attendant had a one-hour lunch break from 1-2pm – surely with the huge amount of staff, it could be always open? Also, there were often jet-skis being driven around in the sea, too near to shore and people swimming – an accident waiting to happen surely? These weren’t anything to do with the hotel though, so nothing that they could have done about this.
The rooms were nice to look at but lacked some functionality - more cupboard space would have been better for 4 in a room like us – there was very little. The lighting was terrible too, no main overhead light. There was no full-length mirror which would have been useful when getting dressed, and nowhere to sit and apply makeup, other than the bathroom mirror which had a wide sink in front of it.
The only other negative is that the evening entertainment lasted from 8-8.30pm (Mon-Fri) only and was repeated every week, so we got to see everything twice. (And the same magic show was repeated three times during our stay – I think I could have performed the same tricks after the third showing!). A hotel of this standard I would have expected more varied entertainment and it be on a 2-week schedule at least. On Saturday there was a live band. This entertainment went on for longer than normal, but to our surprise (and I would think the band,) the bar had shut before the band had stopped playing (around 9.30-10pm)! No wonder not many people had remained to watch.
We went on a tour organised through Eric Garcia on the beach. Eric is a lovely friendly guy, always said hello and is clearly very hard-working. Our tour with Bryan to Parque Nacional Volcan Tenorio, to see sloths and swim in the Catarata Llanos del Cortés was fantastic. The swim at Catarata Llanos del Cortés and meeting a 7-month-old sloth were the highlights.
Overall though an amazing and unforgettable 2 weeks in wonderful Costa Rica at a beautiful hotel with lovely hard-working friendly people.

Just back from a trip to The Westin after a recommendation from a friend. The resort was amazing, clean, no fuss great staff. Whilst we tried a few a la carte options in our first week for dinner we found the buffet suited our needs more as 3 of us are Vegetarian and we also didn't want to be tied to eating at set times. Buffet has excellent choice and plenty of it. The beach at Playa Conchal is also amazing and clean. Free hire of loungers, snorkels, paddle boards and kayaks from Westin also a bonus. Beach towels on demand from the Activity Centre by the pool also a big positive. Massages on the beach for $30 were also fantastic. We used Erik at the beach (blue outfit, google hat) for a Rio Celeste trip + booking better value taxis to Tamarindo. Also booked beach jet skis and El Roble zip wires through Erik. Erik knows his stuff and is very honest with advice. We also booked some trips via Tui/ Destination Services. Prices were similar. With Erik you get private tours with a driver/tour guide where you can dictate the speed of the tour and what you want to do. With the resort tours you get a driver and a guide but will generally share the tour with others. Both approaches worked for us but probably because we shared with good people. Back to Resort, the daily clean and mini bar top up was amazing and we found room service very prompt especially when we needed a 5am breakfast! Golf cart lifts around the resort are really welcome sometimes especially if you're tired after a trip or just want to get to the beach/pool more quickly. Pool bar was great the vast majority of the staff there are great but one surly guy who seemed to be the boss never got a tip from me. My son especially also enjoyed free Ping Pong, Pool and table football at the Activity Centre by the Pool. The Pool is also great by the way! Coming from the UK we don't really do tips outside of restaurants so a bit hard to know what and when to tip. Generally if I got good service I tipped a dollar or two but not always. For trips we tipped driver $10 and guide $30 or $40 dollars depending on how we felt. We walked to Brasilito a couple of times 15 mins. Felt more authentic with a few bars and shops, lovely place for sunset. Also visited Tamarindo a couple of times once for beach/boogie boards and once to watch sport at Sharky's Bar. Some good IPAs here and also at Witch's Rock by the beach which has toilets and a beach shower. Trips wise swimming in waterfalls was a highlight and we did this on Rio Celeste and Sensoria trips. You should set expectations on rainforest trips, you will get wet so trainers, ponchos, change of clothes always required + motion sickness pills! Wildlife will not appear on demand so sighting maybe via telescope or long distance but we saw lots just not always up close which is all good for me, they should steer clear of humans! We were told if you want more wildlife you should try resorts further south. Lots of people (independently) told us the Diomante Park was not a good place so we avoided that. El Roble zip lines were fantastic and much closer. Rain - generally once a day for 20-30 mins not a big deal, once or twice it rained for longer but no big deal just went for food or for a nap. Overall we really enjoyed everything about Costa Rica and The Westin. Pura Vida!

We recently stayed at The Westin Reserva Conchal and it was one of our favorite family vacations. The staff was amazing and truly exemplified what Pura Vida is, which is Pure Life. We had a positive experience all around from the check-in process, to getting assistance for dining with Jessica in reception, to having excellent service at the restaurants by staff like Steven Carranza, to activities with Maria and Lisa. The food was the best we have had at an all-inclusive. We traveled with our family, which includes two teenagers and The Westin is a crowd pleaser. We did one tour as a family and booked through Erik on the beach in front of the hotel. You can't miss him, since he is at the beach each day with a blue polo shirt that has his name on it. You want to wait to see him to book, since weather can vary day to day and he has great recommendations. We booked a tour with Erik that our entire family loved, which included Rio Celeste, Parque Volcan Tenorio visiting the tropical rainforest, visiting a coffee plantation (owed by Juan Jarquin) and seeing Sloths up close and personal. The tour transportation and guides were father and son Willy and David from El Roble and they were fantastic. This tour also included zip lining and we had as our guides Alex and Merlin from Rio Celeste Aventuras who were experienced and experts in safety & fun. On this tour the guides took great family photos that we will definitely include on our Christmas card. The Westin Reserva Conchal did not disappoint and we would be back in a heartbeat!

Room tip: Rooms close to the coffee shop and Bar Imperial a plus. Rooms on second floor a plus.

We stayed in Westin with the family. The facility was nice. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The food was pretty good but the beef is better than the seafood. Shuttle comes right on time. Did an excursion with Erik G. on the beach. He is independent from the hotel and we had a good time. The beach was good and the water was warm. Overall would recommend. I would come back to Westin.

We recently spent 6 nights at the Westin and it was a great experience! The resort is beautiful and the room was spacious for a family of four (Premium Junior Suite). The bathroom was also very spacious, Our favorite restaurant was the seafood one, though we liked the others too.

We also had a great day of excursions! We booked a full day with Erik G, down on the beach. I found him as he was leaving for the day, and he stayed late while we talked through options. Less than 12 hours later we were on our way to what my kids said was “the best day ever”. The great thing about that trip was that we had a private driver, it was only our family, so we didn’t have to wait in long lines or ride big busses through the windy roads. Erik is easy to find, he’s in the beach and has a hat with his name.

We’re already talking about our next trip to the resort! It was relaxing and exciting all wrapped into one!
