We spent 3 nights at the hotel. The pictures on the internet were very promising, and they reflect well the reality. The view from the table in front of the room, or from the beds under the palm trees is really amazing. The towel-art which was waiting for us every day was also very nice. The owner is very kind and helpful, and the same can be said about the gardener and the cleaning staff.
One disappointing thing was the fight with some insects in the room, especially with the biggest cockroach I saw in my life.
The beach is perfect for swimming and boogie boarding which is provided by the hotel. Samara has good restaurants and bars too.
Do not miss the charming, less touristic beaches around.

We had a wonderful week at Hotel Fenix. The rooms are comfortable, the small pool is perfect for an afternoon dip in the shade. The lounge chairs and hammocks are great for reading and relaxing. The hotel is the perfect distance from the center of town--close enough to walk there along the beach, far enough to be removed from the hubbub. I ran into town each morning to buy delicious pastries from the bakery owned by Phyllis' daughter.

Phyllis is warm and welcoming and helpful and her staff is friendly and professional. We spent our days boogie boarding and relaxing, and several times we cooked fresh fish that we bought at a little store a block away. The fresh fruit trucks stopped daily, so we could stock up on pineapple and melons. We were there just before Easter, and Phyllis arranged egg dying and an egg hunt with the help of her grandson. It was very sweet.

We hated to leave and are talking about when we can manage another trip. We'll definitely be back.

You cannot beat the fenix, from the friendly staff to the ocean front hammocks, this place is an absolute wonder to stay in. The rooms are cozy, the property is meticulously maintained and an abundance of hammocks and sun beds give you plenty of space to relax and enjoy your stay on the beach. Taxi rides, fishing trips or any other information is ready available from Bill and Phyllis. They are amazing and they're hotel is the best in town! I Will never stay anywhere else in samara but here.

We spent 5 weeks in Costa Rica and our 10 day stay at the Fenix was a highlight. We stayed in unit #5 which has, I think, the most comfortable bed in Costa Rica!! No air conditioning but fans in bedroom and living area along with sea breezes kept us cool enough. Kitchens are well equipped and we enjoyed cooking fresh dorado and shrimp from the nearby pescaderia.
There is also a small grocery store close by and regular deliveries of fresh fruit and vegetables to the hotel. Quite often the "ceviche lady" will stop by just at lunch time. Yum!! There is a well stocked fridge in the bodega with water, sodas, beer and coolers.
The staff are polite and look happy at their work. Phyllis, the owner, has an an amazing gift of checking in with her guests every day and making you feel very welcome at what she calls "our little piece of paradise."....and it is indeed.
Sunsets are amazing. What more can I tell you. Just go there and see for yourself. You will love it. Thanks Phyllis and Bill

Room Tip: Only unit 6 has air conditioning but all rooms have fans and good ventilation

This was our second time staying at Fenix on the beach. We love the location right on the beach with plenty of comfortable lounge chairs and hammocks. The pool is the perfect size to cool off in. Phyllis and Bill are always available to assist with anything you may need. Any issues with your room are dealt with promptly. A big thank you to Phyllis and Bill's daughter Jessica (who owns Root's Bakery in town) for the beautiful wedding cake! Amazing!!!!!! We love the Fenix and will return!!! Thank you again Phyllis and Bill for a relaxing vacation!!

Room Tip: Room 6 has A/C
