We had booked a stay for nearly 4 weeks in the realy authentic surf camp in Manzanillo.
First i wanna tell that the food was awesome and always enough even though we are two very hungry guys. The location is in the shade of the forest and u can watch a lot of wildlife on the property.
We are experienced surfers and it´s not naturally to be welcome in a Surfcamp when you´re not booking a course, but i can tell, you are in Zopilote.
The teammates were very friendly and had always a open ear for our issues; after a while it felt like holidays with friends.
The beaches and breaks they brought us were mostly the best decision at that time.
After 2 weeks the owner a well experienced surfer offered us to do a short trip to the nicaraguan coast with him. We had great times surfing the most famous breaks there and always some other activities like golf, boattrip, looking for authentic restaurants, ... .
In that 10day trip we visited more than 20 breaks and surfed heaps of them in gorgeous conditions, it seemed he always know where to go.
Finally i can recommend this surf camp even for beginners or experienced surfers. If u wanna start a surfing carrier thats for sure the right place, they work with certified lokal instructors wich all know what they do.
The camp itself is a awesome place with sunset view, cill lounge, and a miniramp in the forest.
If u are looking for a good, friendly authentic place, go there.
Me and my friend will for sure get back there.

Room Tip: If you want a romantic stay book a double bedroom.

We left early and went to a villa we rented in town because we grew tired of the isolation (there's not much even within walking distance), the hostel-like cabins that are open to all comers, not much control over our food and no real say about the timing of our surf lessons. We also didn't care for the crew running Zopilote at the time because they made use feel we weren't cool enough for them. Even my German pal w/ me said they weren't welcoming in German.

The surf instructors are local and know their stuff--I know them from previous trips to the area. You pile into Zopilote's truck for the daily surf lesson at a local beach and there is a large quiver of surfboards for your selection.

The camp is largely German speaking, so as a native English speaker, I grew tired of not understanding anything at the group dinners. What you eat for dinner is what the volunteer cook decides they're making and the options are basically zero unless you order a cab to come 20-30 minutes to collect you from this spot north of Santa Teresa. The internet is also quite poor so if you have work or anything that needs doing, you're going to have to wait until late at night or early morning when everyone is asleep.

Hi DieHard Traveler, thank you for your feedback.

Upon arrival we ask our guest if they have any allergies or special needs regarding food. We provide a diverse menu to full fill all our guests desires.
We trust in our local surf instructors to decide the time of surf lessons depending on swell direction and tide to ensure our guest are safe and have the most enjoyable time. We offer two daily shuttles to local beaches for those to partake in free surf or just enjoy the beach.
Internet is still an issue here in the jungle, we are patiently waiting the installment of high speed internet next month.. Pura Vida

Hi Bianca,
you posted your review on the wrong business. We are Zopilote Surf Camp located in Costa Rica not in Ometepe/Nicaragua.

We had such a good time here; it's a beautiful spot (especially in rainy season) and run by people who want to run a fun camp. Our experience here was in stark contrast to our stay at one of the larger, more commercial and more sterile surf camps (situated nowhere near witch's rock FYI). The choice of equipment and depth of intermediate coaching could be improved however if you can live without air conditioning, heaps of nachos and in depth video analysis of your pop up, I'd highly recommend going to this amazing surf camp. Thanks for a great stay. El ninos

They have a huge collection of different kind of boards to rent and all are in a good condition. The surf spot isn't too far away and not even crowded. The surf house is a nice and relaxing place to stay and a bit away from the dusty and busy St.Teresa. It's a place where I felt extremely comfortable. I met a lot of amazing people there and had lots of fun doing things next to surfing like fishing, ATV riding or snorkeling. All in all, just perfect!!! Thanks to Simon for the great meals he made.
