We booked 3mths in advance but when we arrived they did not have a room for us. They did attempt to find us another hotel but it was not in Manuel Antonio, more $ and did not have a pool. We found another hotel ourselves. Oceano is extremely hard to find... there is no signage. You have to wonder why they do not put up a sign... are they hiding from someone... local tax issues?
The new hotel is great... Villas Manuel Antonio

This place is a good value if you know your way around CR--perhaps daunting for a first timer. Yes security is a bit "different," the main, air conditioned bedroom was secure but the villa was spacious, the appliances worked, hot water and plumbing ok. Furnishings were rustic and yes it is an older property but saw an eye-poppingly beautiful sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

The studio & keys to studio are not secure. No person necessarily on duty to check you in - whoever is around at Salcipuedes Restaurant will give you the keys from a basket (accessible to any passerby or restaurant patron). No other info provided. Studio is spacious, funky & dated but clean enough w/ plenty of hot water- some ants around sink area. Matches needed to light stove, NO MICROWAVE OVEN. Short spoon drawer hard to open so must yank, drawer & contents will fall out, so careful. Although room has cable, TV is a very old analog, only a few channels actually viewable due to excessive static/ snow. Wifi available outside on corner of patio. The small (approx 7’x 15’) but beautifully tiled patio is the best feature. Patio is not safe for kids (2 horizontal rails 2 1/2 ft apart enclose patio), but fine for careful adults & has a beautiful, direct view of the water (beach not accessible from property). Although there is beautiful foilage & small yard for apartment below, this studio is 2nd story. No public areas, no place to go except your studio or patio. VERY HARD TO FIND. Even the Real Estate Co. a couple blocks away had never heard of it. The studio is not visible from the road & is located BEHIND Salcipuedes Restaurant, owned by same guy. This property is NOT associated w/ Tulemar Condos a couple blocks away. The photo provided is not of this studio- but, I assume, of one of the other larger and apparently more updated properties (except water view is representitive). We checked out early due to security problems. As there are some #5 ratings for Oceano Villas, I deduce that at least one of the properties owned by this guy, presumably on the same grounds or close by, has been updated. Despite description, this is not a hotel. There is no concierge, no ATM, no public areas, no daily maid service or laundry service. Except for the beautiful view from patio, most of what is described as part of the studio is fiction.

Thanks to the last reviewer and his note that the villas are located behind Salsipuedes, we probably would not have found the villa. So, yes, better signage would be helpful or better instructions. Also, the ad did mention that you would have access to a concierge but there wasn't anyone to help us - you are on your own. During one particular stormy night, we had 5 leaks in the roof which had us scrambling to keep dry. As for the good things, the location and the view were both very good. In terms of other suggestions for the owners of the villas, given that you also own Salsipuedes, perhaps having complementary breakfast would help encourage hotel guests to eat there more frequently. Would I come back? Now that I know the location more, I would explore other options first.

I booked this place under the name "Oceano Villas" through expedia. There was no proper street address and no signage for this place once you get there so we spent an hour looking for this place. The only street sign they have outside this place is "salsipuedes". We got there and asked about our rooms. Since it was Easter Weekend, despite receiving the payment from expedia, the manager decided to give our room away, even though we had arrived early, at 2 pm. Also, he was not willing to refund what I had already paid. He did make a half hearted attempt to find us alternative accommodations with no success. We were able to find a different place to stay on our own but missed our time slot for ocean kayaking and snorkeling that afternoon. I was very disappointed with Expedia and will not be using them for future needs.

Room Tip: Don't book through expedia
