Staying at Arenas Del Mar was an amazing experience. From the time you enter the open air receiving area nestled in the middle of the jungle to the delightful golf cart rides escorted by the friendly and congenial team led by Freddie, Christian, Juan Diego, Juan Pablo, Raymond and more, we were captivated! Our young boys were in heaven. As we arrived, capuchin monkeys greeted us on the railings outside of our room and the team of young men searched for wild animals to ensure that we enjoyed every moment of our visit. Every night, we fell asleep to a cacophony of creatures. When we ventured out for our daily adventures with our large family, we were offered towels, aloe for sunburns, water and any comfort we might need. The service was exceptional and the setting was every thing we could have wanted - a gorgeous beach, excellent body and boogie board surfing, wild animals everywhere, delicious food and views to die for. We would go back in a second.

Had a fantastic stay at Arenas Del Mar. While accommodations are not luxurious, they are spacious and comfortable. Above all, the location can not be beat. Our room was about 50 yards from what for all intents and purposes was a gorgeous, private beach (hard to come by in Manuel Antonio). Service was superb, with all staff at your beckon call. La Mirador restaurant was exceptional for dinner and the surfing lessons that were arranged by the staff were outstanding. Would go back to Arenas in a heartbeat and recommend to anyone travelling to the area.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the small beach.

It is nearly impossible to capture the magic of Arenas del Mar and its people in words. From welcome drinks (yummy juice smoothies for the whole family) upon arrival, to the pristine beach and roaring surf, to the friendly staff members who befriend you and love helping non-Spanish speakers develop some skills ("pura vida!")...everything was perfect. Our stay from December 27 to January 3, 2015, was among the best vacations (if not the best) my family has ever had. The resort offers an open air bar and restaurant with beautiful views, especially at sunset; a beach-side restaurant, beach amenities including towels, chaises, and air mattresses; relatively easy access to off-site dining and excursions (the friendly staff will arrange everything for you). We were well-educated by our helpful servers and others about the sustainability measures in place that give the resort 5 stars for sustainability as well as luxury. While the luxury is understated rather than opulent, it fits perfectly with the beauty of the resort. Another reviewer remarked on the size of the two swimming pools -- I would agree that they are relatively small and not the top attraction, but with the beautiful beach and perfect water temperature of the ocean, we never thought about going to the pool. Hope we can return one day soon!

This is my first tripadvisor review and I feel compelled to write because of the exceptional experience I had with my husband and two young children.

The service is exceptional here. We felt that it was even more special than Four Seasons service in that we felt that we were guests in a home where the staff wanted us to enjoy ourselves and feel comfortable not because it was their jobs but because they were hosts. A special shout out to Rodben who welcomed us every step of the way, including giving us a tour of the property.

We ate their for every meal (boring of us) but the food was quite good.

The property is beautiful. I believe it's the only hotel in the area with private beach access which we loved. Was easy to beach it or pool it with the kids.

Really felt like we were in comfort in the middle of a rainforest.

Would come again for sure!

The three nights we spent at Arenas Del Mar was the most relaxing time spent during our trip to Costa Rica. We stayed in a suite with a bedroom, two bathrooms, a living room, and a wonderfully large deck equipped with two seating areas and a Jacuzzi. Walking into an air-conditioned room after a long day at the beach was wonderful and the wifi in the room was pretty good. Walking to the beach from the room took approx. 3 minutes; the beach has a security guard, lifeguard, bar, restaurant, and plenty of comfy lounge chairs/beds to hang out in. The water is quite warm and perfect for swimming, body boarding, and the like.

My favorite experience at the hotel was the morning breakfast (included) and the nightly dinner at the hotel’s main restaurant. I have Celiac’s disease so eating out while traveling can be quite the challenge - not here! Julio informed us that the chef & cooks used separate cooking equipment for those with celiacs & other gluten allergies. I also cannot have dairy, soy or shellfish, but Julio and the Chef worked to ensure that I could eat practically everything on the menu. I had gluten free pancakes for breakfast as well as the galleo pinto; both were delightful. For dinner I had a traditional Tico dish (rice/beans/plantains) and on our last night the Chef created a special dinner just for me! He served GF bread with a delicious olive and tomato tapenade, an appetizer of baked beats, mango, and watermelon with a variety of sauces, and for the main, a quinoa and lentil tower with vegetables. It was incredibly thoughtful of them and much appreciated! The cherry on top was that none of it made me sick – so Celiac’s/friends with allergies rejoice! Finally, the staff is incredibly sweet and friendly, hats off to Louis and William for their kind service. We will be back again!

tl;dr: Beautiful hotel with gorgeous beach, amazing restaurant (Celiac and allergen friendly), and incredible staff.
